Océ's New Monochrome and Color Scanners Meet the Changing Needs of the Wide Format Market

Black and white scanner can be easily upgraded to add color capability, increased speed and higher resolutions

Chicago, IL, December 3, 2002 - Océ-USA (NASDAQ: OCENY), a leading supplier of digital document management and delivery technology, announced the addition of four new scanners to its extensive suite of solutions for the wide format market. The scanners, which scan originals up to 36" in width at resolutions up to 800 dpi, are ideal for reprographics, graphic arts, GIS and CAD professionals. In addition, the scanners can easily add color functionality, increased speed and higher resolution with the addition of smart card technology. This flexibility allows customers to meet increased demands by building on their current investment.

The Océ CS4030 and Océ CS4031 scanners offer CAD, GIS and reprographics firms a sophisticated monochrome scanning alternative with high resolution. The scanners capture gray scales at 12 bits for maximum precision and handle thick originals of up to 0.6". Using an optional smart card upgrade, the Océ CS4030 scanner can be converted to the Océ CS4031 with full color scanning functionality, higher resolution (from 600 dpi to 800 dpi), and doubled speed for monochrome scanning to 2.2" per second. The high level of color and detail precision of the Océ CS4031 make it the ideal input tool for GIS professionals.

For higher volume color scanning, the Océ CS4035 and Océ CS4036 color scanners meet multiple scan-to-file, scan-to-copy and scan-to-archive needs, optimize productivity, operate at higher scan speeds and provide the color consistency required by graphic artists and color reprographic providers. They also offer high quality monochrome scanning. Upgrading the Océ CS4035 to the Océ CS4036 with a smart card more than doubles the RGB scanner speed from 0.5" to 1.5" per second and increases resolution from 600 to 800 dpi.

The Océ CS4035 and Océ CS4036 scanners are also available with Océ Color Copy software. Océ Color Copy software integrates high quality color scanning technology with large format digital reproduction.

"Océ's new wide format scanners provide our customers with the flexibility to meet changes in demand without the need for additional capital investment," said Joyce Virnich, vice president of marketing for the Océ-USA Wide Format Printing Systems business unit.
