METTLER TOLEDO Goes To Extremes with Internet-Enabled Scale Terminal

Columbus, OH, August 31, 2001-METTLER TOLEDO introduces the JAGXTREME(TM) terminal, the first out-of-the-box, Internet-enabled weigh scale. The new terminal incorporates industry standard open connectivity, including TCP/IP and Ethernet, to facilitate communication and data exchange with companies' LAN, WAN, automation or enterprise systems, to monitor applications, and to provide remote access for product setup and maintenance. JAGXTREME connects to PCs and other devices using commonly available cables and hubs, eliminating the need for special equipment or proprietary technology.

The terminal also features an embedded Web server that enables product configuration, diagnostics, and maintenance from remote locations via the Internet. Setup changes can be made from anywhere in the world using tools already available on a PC. Designed to help companies better integrate information and equipment life cycle management, and to control automation in their manufacturing processes, the JAGXTREME terminal incorporates numerous features that also lower total cost of
ownership.

The first weighing solution to employ predictive failure analysis, the JAGXTREME terminal can perform a self-diagnosis to predict failures before they occur, provide detailed information on the types of faliures, track its own maintenance, and be programmed to alert designated individuals of potential failures or maintenance needs via email. Maintenance can be performed via Ethernet connection or over the Web from anywhere within a facility or from anywhere around the world.

The terminal's built-in maintenance log helps meet stringent ISO or other quality assurance programs requirements regarding calibration maintenance, and the terminal can be programmed to automatically shut down when scheduled calibration has not been performed. The JAGXTREME terminal also enables scales to automatically report and respond to automated control systems so a manufacturing organization can successfully produce one-of-a-kind products or thousands of a single kind.

Building upon the multi-tasking design and proprietary digital filtering of METTLER TOLEDO's industry-leading JAGUAR terminal, the new JAGXTREME terminal is both faster and more powerful than its predecessor is. It is the fastest industrial terminal capable of simultaneously operating up to four scales without affecting performance or speed. With more memory than standard industrial terminals, the JAGXTREME terminal offers more space for custom programs, data and software options. However, it
is completely compatible with the JAGUAR terminal so customers can easily upgrade their existing JAGUAR terminals to perform the JAGXTREME's enhanced capabilities. The new terminal also
operates like its predecessor, reducing training time for previous JAGUAR users.
