Re-designed SC Connectors Achieve Telcordia Qualification; Incorporate Unique Six-Position Tuning Feature
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Oct. 25, 2004 - Tyco Electronics, a business segment of Tyco International Ltd., has introduced enhanced-design singlemode SC Connectors that optimize performance on 1.6 mm to 2.0mm cable. The 1.6mm SC jumpers have been tested to Telcordia GR-326, Issue 3; Service Life-Part A, using standard match-cladding fiber. The new connectors also incorporate a six-position tuning feature that optimizes fiber alignment and performance.
"The SC connector was originally designed for 3.0mm cable," commented Paula Trindell, product manager, Tyco Electronics fiber optic business unit. "As cable diameters became smaller, particularly with the advent of the LC-style connector, it became increasingly difficult to meet today's rugged performance requirements. Our enhanced uses components similar to other small-form-factor connectors to provide a more robust product. Combined with our new six-position tuning feature, the new Tyco Electronics SC connector easily meets both the requirements and objectives of Telcordia GR-326."
Complete testing was performed at Intertek Testing Services NA, an independent laboratory. Supplemental data was collected at 1490 nm and 1625 nm wavelengths for FTTH, optical service channels and other L-band applications, respectively. The configuration tested was a simplex SC connector, which was terminated to 1.6 mm simplex cordage that contained standard, matched-cladding fiber. Use of this fiber, instead of a bend-insensitive type, confirms that the connector design performs reliably, even when external loads are applied.
