PLX Announces Industry's Highest-Performance SATA Storage Controller, Optimized for Real-Time Encryption

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), a leading global supplier of silicon and software interconnect solutions for the enterprise and consumer markets, today announced the OXUFS944SE, the industry's highest-performance, lowest-power direct attached storage (DAS) controller for the consumer storage market. The PLX® OXUFS944SE silicon is highly integrated to reduce designers' overall cost and is complemented with robust application firmware that includes secure, real-time eSATA encryption and cutting-edge software that slashes OEMs' new product time to market.

Performance and reliability are among the crucial design differentiators for the OXUFS944SE DAS controller. PLX provides over 80MB/s WRITE performance and up to a 100 percent performance increase on small block sizes over its competitors' products. PLX's eSATA performance is also best-in-market providing up to an 80 percent boost on WRITEs.

The OXUFS944SE DAS controller bridges between an eSATA, FireWire or USB 2.0 interface to a single hard disk drive and enables designers to create products with a minimal number of external components, resulting in a low BOM cost. The OXUFS944SE includes a flexible cipher engine providing real-time, on-the-fly eSATA encryption / decryption of data that adheres to the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), thus enabling deployment of full disk encryption solutions.

Industry-low power of only 391mW -- a key attribute of the OXUFS944SE -- is achieved through PLX's superior combination of unique chip architecture and advanced firmware solutions. The OXUFS944SE supports a number of power-saving modes, including SATA Interface Power Management (IPM), which allows additional power saving when connected to hard disk drives that also support IPM. This support aligns with a growing trend in external storage to move towards lower-power "green" solutions.

The OXUFS944SE adds another significant member to PLX's line of highly efficient storage controllers. The company in 2009 introduced the OXUF943SE, the industry's highest-performance, lowest-power USB 2.0/FireWire-to-SATA controller. Both the OXUF943SE and OXUFS944SE are fully supported by PLX's globally renowned software and technical expertise.

"PLX is a preferred supplier to leading global brands, with a proven track record in delivering best-in-class storage controllers," said David Raun, vice president of marketing and business development, PLX. "With our first external storage controller having shipped in 2000 and more than 30 million such devices delivered to customers worldwide since 2002, PLX is wholly committed to the global storage market and to delivering superior products with personal technical attention given to support designers."

Pricing and Availability
The OXUFS944SE is sampling today, priced at $7 in volume, with full production scheduled for Q2'10.
