Custom fabricated sapphire wafer carriers that are highly durable and transparent for the thinning of GaAs, indium phosphide, silicon and other semiconductors are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, RI.

Meller Sapphire Wafer Carriers are available in sizes from 2" to 6" dia. and can be manufactured as thin as 0.018", depending upon their diameter. Stronger, more stable, and longer lasting than fused quartz, these optical grade high purity sapphire wafer carriers feature flatness and parallelism to 0.0025mm and can incorporate flats and laser markings.

Supplied polished or ground and custom perforated with patterns for vacuum hold-down or delamination, Meller Sapphire Wafer Carriers are designed for repeated use. Chemical-, chip- and scratch-resistant, sapphire is second only to diamond in terms of hardness (9 Moh).
