Sapphire Optics Made To Customer Specification



Custom manufactured sapphire optics that can incorporate special physical characteristics for a variety of applications subject to extreme environments are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Custom Sapphire Optics are manufactured to specification for appli-cations that require a clear, durable, and chemically inert window, lens, cube, or cover that is impervious to water and can withstand high pressures. Featuring drilled holes, slots, wedges, stepped edges for ease of assembly, elliptical edge shaping, or metallization, they are ideally suited for use as viewports, instrument covers, and as wear surfaces in harsh environments.

Available in sizes from 1/4" to 10" dia. and 1/2 mm to 1" thick, Meller Custom Sapphire Optics can withstand 10,000 psi, depending upon configur-ation, and are second only to diamond in terms of hardness (Moh 9). They can be supplied with various types of A/R coatings and flatness can be held to 0.5 fringes of HeNe, with parallelism from 20 to 2 arc/secs.
