(Elyria, Ohio) The RIDGID® Oscillating Edge/Belt Spindle Sander (Model EB4424) is the first tool in the industry to combine the ability to remove materials by sanding in two different modes
on the same machine. Unlike other tools, the transformation between belt and spindle modes is completely tool-less.
"This one-of-a-kind tool allows woodworking professionals to have one tool that can sand with the speed of an edge belt sander and the versatility of a spindle sander. No other sander out there can provide this much versatility or power," said Jeff Drake, RIDGID spokesperson. By merely removing a Sof-Touch(TM) knob the user can convert from belt sander to spindle sander without tools. The belt-sanding mode provides a smooth finish to flat edges and laces and the spindle motion allows for fast, burn-free finishes on contours, inside and outside curves. The combined oscillating and rotary motions provide for fast material removal and smooth finishes whether sanding with or against the grain.
The sander features an adjustable 0-48° tilting table with detents at the most often used angles (0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, 45°). Woodworkers can easily and efficiently sand beveled edges for a tight fit.
The powerful, 3/8 horsepower, 5.0 Amp motor features permanently lubricated sleeve bearing construction for smooth operation and long life. The patented drive system uses no belts or pulleys that could slip and wear. Die-cast metal components are used in the belt sanding assembly for durability and minimal vibration.
Additional comfort and convenience features include: Sof-Touch(TM) knobs for greater user comfort, a built-in sawdust collection port that accepts any 2-1/2" vac hose, built-in carrying handles for easy transport and recesses in the base for mounting the sander on a sawhorse.
The sander features on-board storage for drums, throat plates, washers and the belt mechanism. It comes complete with a 4" x 24" sanding belt, all the drums (3/4,1", 1-1/2", 2"), and a set of sleeves (1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2" and 2") that allow users to begin work right away.
The EB4424 includes RIDGID's exclusive cord package. This package features a 12-foot rubber cord, for extra reach and user friendliness in a wider range of environmental temperatures. A lighted plug, which confirms when the tool is "hot", features a backlit icon of the tool for easy identification. This feature also reduces aggravation on busy sites where many tool cords are plugged into one central power source. Finally, a standard Velcro(TM) cord wrap organizes the cord neatly for storage, eliminating knots and tangles.
