Samsung and Cingular Wireless Unveil Award-Winning HSDPA Wireless Handset for North America

Samsung SGH-zx20 supports high-speed HSDPA technology, integrates Bluetooth capabilities and provides enhanced reception

DALLAS and ATLANTA, Aug. 29 // -- Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) and Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, today announced the launch of the SGH-zx20, Samsung's first commercially available High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) phone for the U.S. market and another Samsung handset exclusive to Cingular.

Consumers can access the highest quality in mobile applications such as video streaming, high-speed Web browsing and fast software downloads by using the Samsung SGH-zx20 on Cingular's 3G HSDPA network. With the SGH-zx20 handset, Cingular customers will have a variety of connectivity choices at their finger tips including access to Cingular Video and a variety of other multimedia and messaging capabilities.

"Samsung Mobile's SGH-zx20, a carrier exclusive handset, takes advantage of Cingular's high-speed, HSDPA network," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president, Samsung. "The SGH-zx20 is a high-quality, sleek, compact device for Cingular customers to access high bandwidth services and downloads that up until now have been available only to broadband-enabled computers."

"As we continue to deploy our advanced 3G network, devices like the Samsung SGH-zx20 will give our customers a much richer experience for multimedia services and high-speed downloads," said David Christopher, vice president of product management, Cingular Wireless. "The SGH-zx20 helps showcase the benefits of our 3G network-faster access to what our customers care about while on the go, whether it is their favorite entertainment, news or messaging services."

In addition to experiencing quick data download times, consumers also benefit from the ability to use the cell phone for multiple functions. No longer will data and multimedia activity be interrupted by a phone call. On the Cingular HSPDA network, consumers can use traditional voice function of the device while simultaneously downloading data which increases productivity. The SGH-zx20, encased in a sleek Samsung-signature clamshell with silver and black accents, features a dedicated "multitask" button, allowing users to easily access Cingular's 3G network and view menus necessary to simultaneously use voice and data, check email, surf the Web or download ringtones all while on a voice call.

The SGH-zx20, a recent American Photo Editor's Choice Award recipient for one of the top camera cell phones of 2006, features a brilliant 262K-color TFT screen on which to view downloads from the Internet, or video and still images taken with the 1.3 megapixel camera. The phone also boasts built in messaging options such as AIM/AOL(TM), MSN, and Yahoo!(TM).

As a quad-band phone (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 1900 MHz), the SGH- zx20 will work around the world, allowing users to stay connected to friends and family through a number of mediums - voice, data and messaging. This world-class device also delivers superior reception and integrates Bluetooth capabilities.

Cingular's 3G network provides average download data speeds between 400- 700 kilobits per second with bursts to over one megabit.
