Desktop-as-a-Service Solution to Reduce Expenditures and Optimize Operations of Government Agencies
MCLEAN, Va. — Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAIC) and Hitachi Data Systems Federal Corporation (HDS Federal) today announced a strategic alliance to help develop and deliver a desktop-as-a-service (DTaaS) solution that optimizes operations, lowers costs, and increases service performance levels for government agencies. Â

Additionally the joint offering complies with government desktop standards, such as the Federal Desktop Core Configuration and the National Institute of Science and Technology's United States Government Configuration Baseline. The joint DTaaS solution capabilities help support agency telework and continuity of operations policies, remote and field workers, and enhanced security through centralized control of desktop configuration and patching. DTaaS is designed be accessed securely from any location, any time, and on any device, providing a safe, compliant desktop capability for today's mobile workforce that is also straightforward to manage.

DTaaS is a computing model that provides an end-user experience that is functionally equivalent to a traditional PC desktop, but is delivered on server-class infrastructure from enterprise data centers; it also allows rapid deployment of emerging and extended capabilities, including support for mobile computing and for users who bring their own devices. The model has all the safeguards and advanced management features traditionally available only with servers. The system is immensely scalable, enabling consistent management of hundreds or thousands of virtual single-user operating systems.
Government agencies that deploy DTaaS can reduce operating and capital expenditures, alter their IT spending mix towards operational expense and away from capital expense, and consolidate maintenance and support of their desktop environments.
