New Safety Relays from Rockwell Automation Feature Modular, Space Saving Design

Two new Allen-Bradley safety relays designed to conserve panel space and reduce wiring complexity

MILWAUKEE, Aug. 28, 2006 - Two new Allen-Bradley safety relays from Rockwell Automation deliver high-performance safety protection while helping OEMs reduce installation time and costs. Offering broad application versatility and a modular, easily expandable design, the new MSR142RTP and MSR144RTP relays are the latest additions to the Allen-Bradley GuardMaster family of safety relays from Rockwell Automation.

"Traditionally, users have had to choose between safety and flexibility," said Kevin Zomchek, product manager, Rockwell Automation. "These new safety relays - with their modular design and reliable performance - put to rest this assumption."

Featuring seven safety outputs, four auxiliary outputs and two solid-state auxiliary outputs, the MSR142RTP multi-output relay is designed to meet a variety of application requirements, including safety switches, light curtains and safety mats. The MSR142RTP is housed in a 67.5mm-wide DIN-rail mount with removable terminals and accepts both solid state and electromechanical inputs. The relay also is equipped with automatic or monitored manual reset capabilities.

"The MSR142 helps users reduce installation costs and conserve cabinet space by allowing them to switch up to seven outputs without having to buy additional expansion modules," said Zomchek.

The second new relay, the MSR144RTP, can be connected in four different input wiring configurations and is easily expanded via a ribbon connector from the dedicated expansion modules. Up to five modules can be connected together in any combination of immediate or delayed output modules. The relay allows users to switch several safety circuits or different voltages with one E-stop command.

"The MSR144RTP safety relay, when combined with plug-in output expansion modules, is ideal for complex applications where flexibility and a high number of output contacts are required," Zomchek said.

In addition to reducing installation costs and wiring complexity, the MSR144RTP helps simplify inventory, as its modular design can be applied to meet a broad range of equipment specifications and application demands. With removable coded terminals and extended LED diagnostics, the relay not only provides a high level of safety protection, but also helps reduce service and maintenance costs.

The MSR144RTP conforms to standards EN 954-1, ISO 13849-1, IEC/EN 60204-1, AS4024.1 and ISOTR12100, and is CE marked for all applicable directives: TUV and cULus. The unit is encased in a IP40-rated, Polyamide PA 6.6 housing, which protects against shock and vibration, and offers users convenient 35mm DIN rail mounting capabilities.
The new MSR142RTP and MSR144RTP safety relays are currently available for shipping.
