Safety Modules have dual microprocessors.

Press Release Summary:

Din rail-mounted modules, with removable terminal blocks, feature diverse-redundant design. Microprocessors each operate with a different instruction firmware set. Products include ES-UA/VA-5A for 1- or 2-channel circuit, and ES-TN-14H5/6 with 4 delayed-output switching channels. Safety modules with no delay function open output relay contacts within 25 milliseconds after stop occurs. Modules meet NFPA 79, IEN/EN60204-1, ES-UA/VA-5A and ES-TN-14H5/6 standards.

Original Press Release:

New Additions To Extensive Line Of Safety Modules Include Dual-Microprocessor Models.

Minneapolis, MN-August, 9 2002-Banner Engineering Corp., a world leader in electronic machine safety systems has announced two new safety module families. The new modules are additions to Banner's extensive line of US made safety modules. The new dual-microprocessor safety modules offer superior control and reliability thanks to diverse-redundant design utilizing two different microprocessors, each operating with a different instruction firmware set.

Especially significant, is the new breadth of Banner's offering, which in a short period of time, has become one of the industry's broadest selections, with modules offering solutions for almost every safety monitoring application. This extensive line of modules includes Category 2 and Category 4 safety modules, gate monitoring modules, extension modules, Category 1 delayed-stop modules, DeviceNet & trade compatible modules, two-hand control modules, and muting modules.

One of the new families, ES-UA/VA-5A features four immediate output-switching channels for connection to control-reliable power interrupt circuits as well as an auxiliary non-safety, normally-closed output for status monitoring. These new modules are designed to monitor a 1-channel or 2-channel circuit increasing the control reliability of the safety circuit. The other family, ES-TN-14H5/6, has four delayed output switching channels that are adjustable from 0-20 or 0-200 seconds, depending on model.

The new safety modules with no delay function open their output relay contacts within 25 milliseconds after a stop occurs and are compliant with functional stop Category 0 applications per NFPA 79 and IEN/EN60204-1. Modules with delay capability are meant for use on machines classified as a functional stop Category 1 (per ISO/EN 60204-1 and NFPA79), where immediate removal of power would not stop the machine at once because its high speed, high mass or momentum would cause the machine to run on. To stop such machines quickly and safely, electrical brake systems or reverse current via the machine's actuators are commonly used to provide a controlled stop with power available to the machine actuators to achieve the stop and then removal of the power when the stop is completed.

New safety module families from Banner feature selectable auto or monitored manual reset and input monitoring via diverse-redundant microprocessors to achieve the highest reliability and a Category 4 protection classification, the highest possible rating available to any electronic safety device. Some even have auto or manual power-up.

These modules mount to standard 35 mm DIN-rail track and have removable terminal blocks. System status is indicated via 4 or 7 LEDs. Electrical operation requirements are 12-24V dc/115V ac or 12-24V dc/230V ac for the ES-UA/VA-5A and 24V dc for the ES-TN-14H5/6. Pricing for Banner safety modules begins at $139.00.
