Bacou-Dalloz Expands Uvex Genesis Line

New Patriotic Frame and Lens Tints For Uvex's Most Comfortable and Technologically Advanced Safety Eyewear

Smithfield, R.I., October 9, 2002 - Bacou-Dalloz-the world's leading manufacturer of personal protective equipment and parent company of Uvex Safety-is expanding its popular line of Uvex Genesis® safety eyewear, adding a new "patriotic" frame design along with a wider selection of lens tints. This enhanced product line will debut at the National Safety Congress being held this week in San Diego, California.

The new Uvex Genesis "Patriot" features red, white and blue styling and an imprint of the American flag. The front (brow piece) is translucent red; the temples, translucent blue; and the joint, white. In addition, the bottom of the right lens (as worn and out of the field of vision) is inscribed with the words "United We Stand." This new patriotic style is particularly appropriate for protective eyewear that was designed for American workers using advanced molding technology developed in the U.S. And like all Uvex Genesis eyewear, the "Patriot" is made in the United States.

"American workers have always proudly displayed their nationalism, and today public displays of patriotism are even stronger," said Anne Chambers, Bacou-Dalloz Brand Manager for Eye and Face Protection. She also noted that another red, white and blue frame-the Astrospec "Patriot"-has topped the company's list of best-selling frame colors since it was introduced during the Gulf War.

Bacou-Dalloz is also introducing a selection of task-specific lenses to the Uvex Genesis line. The addition of Infradura® welding shades 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 make this high-performance eyewear accessible to people in a wider variety of work applications. Also new to Genesis - and exclusive to Uvex safety eyewear - is SCT® or Spectrum Control Technology. This lens technology uses unique dyes to absorb select wavelengths of radiant energy into the lens, protecting against radiation hazards that include ultraviolet, infrared and visible glare. SCT® lenses are available in SCT-Low IR, SCT-Vermillion, SCT-Gray, SCT-Blue and SCT-Reflect 50. Traditional lens tints in clear, espresso, amber and mirror complete the line. And all Genesis lenses are available with either Ultradura® hard coat or Uvextreme AF® anti-fog coating.

Introduced two years ago, Genesis has become one of the fastest selling new products in the safety industry and is known for its exceptional comfort and protection-the result of Uvex's innovative(MMT). This manufacturing process produces a lightweight yet resilient external polycarbonate frame bonded to a soft elastomer that lines the internal surface of the frame. Consequently, Genesis not only provides comfort at every point of contact with the wearer's face, but it also diffuses and absorbs impact.

The stylish, 9-base wrap-around lens protects the entire eye area, providing unobstructed vision and exceptional peripheral coverage. A small ventilation space between the frame and the lens reduces moisture build-up and minimizes fogging.

"Many end users have told us that the Genesis safety eyewear is so comfortable, they've worn it home without realizing they had it on. When we hear that, we know we've done our job," said Chambers. Uvex Genesis exceeds ANSI Z87.1 and CSA Z94.3 standards. It has also passed the military VO ballistic (standard MIL-STD-662) test regimen, confirming that Uvex Genesis can withstand impact velocities nearly seven times the ANSI requirement.
