Safe Technology Ltd Announces the First Commercial Sale of Verity® in fe-safe(TM)

Sheffield, UK, November 2006: Emerson Copeland (www.emersonclimate.com) has selected Verity®, the weld fatigue analysis methodology developed by Battelle and now commercially available only in fe-safe(TM), the state of the art suite of fatigue analysis software for FE models from Safe Technology Limited.

The Verity® mesh-insensitive structural stress methodology for the fatigue evaluation of welded structures was developed by Battelle researcher, Pingsha Dong. The method has now been validated by leading experts across a broad array of industries and was this year licensed to Safe Technology to create an fe-safe(TM) module for weld fatigue life prediction.

The Verity method is a major departure from traditional weld fatigue analysis approaches in that it uses nodal forces to determine a 'structural stress' at the weld toe. The applicability of Verity® to any area of industry where the fatigue life of welded structures and components is an issue, has profound implications for product design in terms of performance, quality and cost. The Verity® method can be applied to structural welds in thick plate, seam welds in thin sheets, spot welds and solder joints, all with a single S-N curve and demonstrating unprecedented accuracy.

"This is a groundbreaking methodology, now available in a user-friendly piece of commercial software. Battelle and Safe Technology are confident that other companies will soon be reaping the benefits of applying Verity® to their design and analysis programs by achieving accurate and consistent fatigue life evaluation of welded structures. Industry experts believe this has the potential to save billions of dollars in the aerospace, automotive, bridge construction, shipbuilding, pipeline, and off-shore oil rig industries," said Prof John Draper, CEO, Safe Technology Ltd.

Verity® has been developed in collaboration with more than a dozen leading engineering companies, Battelle's Joint Industry Project (JIP), and has been verified by correlating the results of more than 800 sets of welded joint fatigue test data. It has won a number of awards, the most recent being an R&D 100 Award by R&D Magazine in the US.
