Rust Preventative protects parts in machining cells.

Press Release Summary:

Water-based Dri Touch® WB provides corrosion protection in manufacturing cells without contaminating metalworking fluids with solvents or other polluting oils. Odorless liquid mixes with water, forming effective rust preventive barrier on metal parts after machining. It dries quickly to colorless film, sealing out corrosion with no oil or VOC content. Solution can be applied to parts by dipping or spraying.

Eden Prairie, Minnesota: Today's machining cells require the use of non-polluting coolants and rust preventatives to meet increasingly stringent environmental standards. A new, water-based rust preventative called Dri Touch® WB provides part corrosion protection in manufacturing cells without contaminating metalworking fluids with solvents or other polluting oils.

Most manufacturing cells now use water-based metalworking fluids in machining operations. However, after machining or between machining operations, parts are often dipped or sprayed with a solvent or oil-based rust preventative to protect them in transit to the next cell in which they are machined. The question arises, what happens to the solvent or oil-based rust preventative residue? Typically, it is washed off becoming "tramp oil", which contaminates subsequent fluid reservoirs in the machining cell. Disposal becomes a problem, especially where environmental protection regulations are involved.

Dri Touch WB eliminates the contamination of metalworking fluids. It is an odorless liquid that mixes with water, forming an effective rust preventive barrier on metal parts after machining. It dries quickly to a colorless, dry-to-the-touch film sealing out corrosion with no oil or VOC content. Because it is compatible with water-based metalworking fluids, it does not contribute polluting "tramp oil" to the machining cell reservoirs.

For use in the manufacturing cell, Dri Touch WB mix ratio is 5-10 parts water to 1 part Dri Touch WB concentrate. The solution can be applied to machined parts by dipping or spraying, then allowed to dry in a tote bin, or flash dried with an air hose.

Dri Touch WB can also be used as an effective final rust preventive after black oxide finishing with Tru Temp. The two used together results in a total black oxide process line that utilizes all water-based products with no EPA regulated chemicals. Both comply with Mil-C-13924 and MMS2458.

Dri Touch WB is available in 5 gallon and 55 gallon containers directly from Birchwood Casey.
