RPT to Demonstrate Router Trimming, Material Handling and Software Capabilities at 2006 SPE Thermoforming Conference

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 6, 2006 - Robotic Production Technology, North America's leading robotic trimming solutions provider, will showcase its new RoboTrim® RT-500 router trimming system, it's popular RoboTrim(TM) RT-1000 router trimming system and demonstrate it's advanced material handling, AccuFind(TM) part variation sensing and software abilities at the 2006 SPE Thermoforming Conference in Nashville, Tenn. from Sept. 17-19.

"The RoboTrim(TM) RT-500 system provides manufacturers with the ability to trim 60" x 60" x 60" parts with the flexibility of a 6-axis robot. This system was specifically designed to trim large thermoformed, injection-molded, blow-molded, rotational molded or composite parts," said Paul Schuch, RPT Routing System Sales Manager.

In addition to the servo-controlled rotating table, full safety enclosure with automatic sliding front doors and comprehensive safety equipment, the RoboTrim RT-500 system on display will feature the new 6-axis RPT AccuTrim(TM) R-110 robot equipped with a 10 HP spindle, automatic tool change capabilities, FANUC's new R-J3iC controller and RPT's unique RouterWare(TM) and System Calibration Tools software. System Calibration Tools, comprised of TCPCal (automatic spindle alignment software), RobotCal (robot mastering software) and CellCal (automatic fixture set-up software), allows users to set-up and maintain the key components required to achieve consistently high part quality with minimal set-up time. The tools give users the ability to transfer programs from one robot to another or from off-line generated TrimPro(TM) CAD-to-Path programs - saving significant production time.

The RoboTrim(TM) RT-1000 router trimming system, also on display, is a high-throughput router trimming system for parts up to 60" x 36" x18" tall. It includes the new 6-axis RPT AccuTrim(TM) R-44 robot equipped with 3 HP spindle, FANUC's new R-J3iC controller, automatic tool change capabilities, and a comprehensive safety system. RPT will showcase a variety of specialized software tools on the system as well as RPT's AccuFind(TM) sensor, which locates critical features in parts prone to shrinkage. This allows the robotic system to automatically detect variation part to part and to accommodate that variance as the part is trimmed. The system being displayed will be a single robot configuration. A dual robot configuration is also available for users interested in shortening per part cycle time even further.

RPT will also demonstrate its large part handling capabilities with an RPT SmartMove(TM) system utilizing a FANUC M-900 robot with 770 lbs. of payload capability. Large sheets can be loaded into a thermoforming process or large parts can be removed from the forming process and loaded to the trimming process with this type of material handling solution.

"The RPT systems on display at Thermoforming 2006 are just a few of the pre-engineered system solutions we've developed to help our customers be more competitive," said Chuck Russo, RPT CEO. "We have focused on meeting the needs of thermoformers and composite manufacturers, developing and delivering a family of pre-engineered systems that can handle parts sizes up to 2' x 2' in incremental sizes up to 5' x 12' parts and also to very large parts such as industrial truck hoods, aerospace components and marine products. We're looking forward to showcasing our trimming, materials handling and software capabilities at this important event."
