Routers provide up to 2.31 Mbps data throughput per channel.

Press Release Summary:

Bintec-based Model R3400 supports G.SHDSL on up to 4 copper wires allowing symmetric data throughput up to 4.6 Mbps, while Model R3800 provides up to 9.2 Mbps throughput on up to 8 wires. Routers feature 10 pre-activated IPSec tunnels, stateful inspection firewall and VPN security, 4-port switch, ISDN interface for backup and remote maintenance, and DMZ port for webserver operation. Router enables access to corporate network for teleworkers, remote offices, subsidiaries, or partners.

Original Press Release:

New Broadband SHDSL Routers from Funkwerk with up to 9.2 Mbps.

13 February 2006: Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC) has announced two new G.SHDSL routers based on the new bintec hardware platform that offers powerful functionality along with highly flexibility interface and protocol support. The bintec R3400 supports G.SHDSL on up to four copper wires, allowing symmetric data throughput up to 4.6 Mbps; while the bintec R3800 provides twice the bandwidth up to 9.2 Mbps, on a maximum of eight wires. Both routers come with ten pre-activated IPSec tunnels and hardware encryption.

With its latest bintec R3400 and bintec R3800, FEC offers powerful secure broadband access to the corporate network for teleworkers, remote offices, subsidiaries or partners.

SHDSL: Symmetric and powerful connection
SHDSL (Single-Pair High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line) supports connection types that transmit data in both directions at the same speed. SHDSL attains data throughput of up to 2.3 Mbps per channel with two wires. Whereas the bintec R3400 SHDSL works with up to four wires, the bintec R3800 achieves up to 9.2 Mbps with four bundled channels on eight wires and can draw upon hardware supported IMA (Inverse Multiplexing over ATM). Connections at such high bit-rates are ideally suited for hosting services such as web and e-mail servers or virtual workstations. In addition, an SHDSL connection can be used for applications in which peer-to-peer data transmission up and downstream is a requirement. These include videoconferencing or broadband links to remote offices or subsidiaries.

Secure and powerful
While the bintec R3400 and bintec R3800 come complete with ten activated IPSec tunnels, up to 50 additional tunnels can be activated using a flexible licence model. The new routers also include a Stateful Inspection Firewall (SIF) and versatile VPN security features facilitate teleworking and give staff in remote subsidiaries and business partners protected access to the company network via encrypted tunnels.

High performance quality of service functions - such as packet classification and prioritisation, bandwidth optimisation and avoidance of network overload - guarantee optimal utility of the available WAN interface. In addition, the two devices are equipped with a four-port switch and an ISDN interface for backup solutions or remote maintenance, as well as a separate DMZ port for operating webservers.

Key Features of bintec R3400 and R3800
o Data throughput: up to 2.31 Mbps per channel; up to 4.6 Mbps in total for R3400 and 9.2 Mbps for R3800
o Inverse Multiplexing over ATM for bintec R3800
