Taylor Hobson Introduces Surtronic 25 Battery-Powered Portable Roughness Checker

Combines Speed, Accuracy and Flexibility with Latest Electronic Capabilities

LEICESTER, ENGLAND--Taylor Hobson, an acknowledged leader in metrology design and manufacturing, has introduced the Surtronic 25-the latest addition to its long-standing line of Surtronic roughness checkers. The battery-powered device is completely portable, extremely flexible, and easy to use. It offers a range of features including fast measurement cycle, intuitive operating menu, unique stylus lift mechanism, powerful Talyprofile software, and interchangeable pick-ups and accessories.

The unit can be used either freestanding (on horizontal, vertical or even inverted surfaces) or bench mounted for batch measurement and laboratory applications. Its uniquely engineered stylus lift mechanism allows a vertical adjustment of 50mm and rotation of the pick up to different measuring positions, including right angle or inverted measurements. This feature allows for greater flexibility, reduced set up time and virtually eliminates the need for expensive work-holding fixtures.

The Surtronic 25 incorporates the latest electronic capabilities. With only two buttons, Surtronic users can scroll through menus and make selections before pressing the "Measure" key. The unit is able to calculate and display up to 10 parameters simultaneously on a large LCD screen. The results are displayed even before the transverse unit returns. That fast processing, combined with the intuitive menu buttons, greatly reduces measurement cycle time.

As with previous generations of Surtronic instruments, this latest version includes an extensive range of interchangeable pick-ups and accessories that allow users to customize the system to meet specific needs. And here is some very good news for the owners of older Surtronic instruments, their existing pick-ups and accessories are fully compatible with the new Surtronic 25.

The Surtronic 25 includes a multifunction port that permits a printer connection or export to a PC for further surface finish analysis using the optional Talyprofile software. Two versions of Talyprofile software are available. Talyprofile "Lite" has all of the functions typically used for shopfloor inspection, while Talyprofile "Regular" has complete laboratory analysis functions.

Taylor Hobson is a leading manufacturer of ultra-precision measurement instrumentation for a variety of markets, including optics, semiconductors, hard disk drives and nanotechnology research. It was acquired in June 2004 by AMETEK, Inc, a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors, with annual sales of more than $1.2 billion.
