New Dynamic Rotary Transducers Upgrade Impulse Tools To Precision Fastener Assembly Systems

ROCK HILL, SC, September 23, 2003 - Chicago Pneumatic has introduced the DRT4 and DRT5 series of precision dynamic rotary torque and torque/angle transducers. The DRT series brings
precision assembly tool performance to electric or pneumatic tools impulse tools such as screwdrivers, nutrunners and spindles. These compact, in-line digital transducers can achieve or check all types of joints, hard or soft. They are easily recalibrated without hardware adjustment.

The DRT family employs strain gauge transducer technology with a patented brush contact design for measurement stability. Conversion of the torque value to a digital signal close to the strain gauges makes the DRT series one of the most accurate and reliable types of torque transducers. With a digital connection between the transducer and data collector, cable length has no effect on accuracy. Torque sensitivity is 2mVN, with accuracy of ±0.35% full scale. The angle counting model achieves a 0.5° resolution.

Built-in smart chip memory digitizes and communicates all transducer parameters to the data collector. The transducer parameters are automatically selected, and the data collector automatically recognizes the transducer connected, preventing selection of the wrong transducer.

The calibration function reports out the type of transducer, sensitivity, nominal load and serial number. Maintenance information captured is the date of the last calibration and the maximum torque applied on the transducer.

The DRT series offers a torque range from 0.15 to 1400 Nm (0.11 to 1032 ft-lbs). Torque and torque/angle models are the same dimensions. Available outputs include 1/4" hex and 1/4" to 1" square.
