Retro Audio Equipment's Popularity Brings New Life to Switch For Several Applications
FREMONT, California, May 21, 2003 - Elma Electronic, a leading designer and manufacturer of rotary switches, passive components and electronic packaging products, has released a new standard product line of their Type 01 rotary switches. This design was previously only offered as part of custom design services. This newest version of the Type 01 switch offers even longer life and is now available in smaller volumes.
Elma's new and improved Type 01 design is now commonly used in audio, industrial, and flight simulation applications. In audio applications, they are often used as a critical component in parametric equalizers and/or microphone pre-amps. The original switch design was used in Nieve and Helios mixing consoles in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Most of the original switches are still going strong in equipment that is over 30 years old. With the popularity of "Retro Sounding" equipment, this switch is once again extremely popular in various configurations. New applications for this versatile switch are popping up in industrial and defense applications regularly.
The Type 01 has switches cycles in excess of 25,000 cycles, which is a very conservative rating. Made in Europe as opposed to the Far East, the switches offer superior quality. Features include options of gold or silver contacts, a variety of switching configurations, and shorting or non-shorting types (make-before-break or break-before-make). The switches have a 6mm hollow shaft, with a 3mm drill-through to accept a potentiometer or other rotary switch in a concentric configuration.
Elma's modular approach allows one the ability to select a standard product range for a point of reference, and request modifications tailored to their solution. Typically, there are very low minimum quantities required, hand-made samples can be created quickly and pricing is extremely competitive. Many switch manufacturers in the industry require large quantity minimum orders. Elma will develop customs in quantities as little as 10 pcs.
Pricing for the standard Type 01 series is approx. $15-$25 depending on quantity. Lead-time is approximately 4 weeks ARO.
