Rotary Screw Compressors come in modular form.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring Sigma Profile rotors and 1:1 drive with no transmission losses, BSD and CSD Compressors are available with attached refrigeration dryer or variable frequency drive modules, or both. SFC variable frequency drive module enables compressor to meet fluctuating air demand, while refrigeration dryer module turns package into compressed air system supplying dry air. With real-time operating system, Sigma Control industrial computer monitors and controls entire package.

BSD and CSD Rotary Screw Compressors are Now Available in a New, Modular Form

Triple advantage

Strictly speaking, Kaeser's BSD and CSD compressors are real energy-savers in their own right. This is ensured with large airends running at low speeds, rotors with the Sigma Profile, 1:1 drive with no transmission losses, motors to "EPACT" and "EU-eff1"1 specs, and highly efficient cooling. Kaeser airends come in a multitude of varieties, so there will always be one to suit every individual need of pressure and power rating in the most efficient way. But now Kaeser has put even more coal on the fire. In addition to the standard models, these compressors are now available with attached refrigeration dryer or variable frequency drive modules or both.

Adding-on an SFC variable frequency drive module turns the compressor into a highly flexible system perfectly suited to meet fluctuating air demand. Delivery can be matched to the current air demand by continuously adjusting drive motor speed, with system pressure being held constant within a range of 0.2 bar, depending on the buffer capacity of the air distribution system. The resulting reduction in maximum pressure is a direct cost saving, since reducing pressure by just one bar lowers power consumption by 7 percent. The SFC module is a separate unit adjacent to the compressor that takes up little floor space with short communication paths between the control electronics and the compressor drive motor.

The refrigeration dryer module turns the package into a compact compressed air system supplying dry air that satisfies the highest quality requirements. The dryer is housed in a separate cabinet that allows components to be generously sized. Spatial separation isolates the dryer from the compressor's waste heat, which, together with optimised cooling, increases operational reliability.

Sigma Control, a rugged, updateable industrial computer with a real time operating system monitors and controls not just the compressor but also the whole package, including the SFC and dryer modules. The control panel with menu-guided text display, icons and dedicated keys makes for easy operation. Interfaces are provided to connect a modem, a second compressor and for access to an integrated data network.

The designers have paid particular attention to good accessibility to all components. This alleviates maintenance, helps to save more cash and increases the availability of the equipment.

1: These motors comply with the high efficiency requirements of the US Energy Policy Act (EPACT) and to EU-eff1, the comparable voluntary commitment of European electric motor manufacturers to high efficiency in the CEMP Agreement (Committee of European Manufacturers of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics).

Now BSD- and CSD-type screw compressors can be ordered with attached modules making them even more versatile and adaptable to different needs.
