PKB Introduces Cosmo, a New Rotary Machine for Filling and Capping Cosmetic Bottles of Various Shapes and Sizes

Chicago, September 9, 2003

The French company PKB has over fifty years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and selling filling and capping machines for liquid and semi-liquid products in the perfume and cosmetics industries. Extensive know-how in this complex field has earned the company a solid reputation. It is particularly specialized in multiformat machines, with a specific machine design that successfully handles from five to as many as seventy different formats. PKB recently launched COSMO, a new rotary machine that can fill and cap up to 200 bottles per minutes (bpm). COSMO is specially designed for the filling and capping of all liquid and semi-liquid cosmetics products such as shampoo, conditioner, haircolor, shower gel, bubble bath, liquid soap, balm, lotion, liquid make-up, make-up remover, roll-on and deodorant, from 1 to 17 ounces.

To fill products with a wide range of viscosities (including water-based, oil-based, viscous, foamy, alcohol-based) and to reach required speeds, PKB chose a bottom-up filling method for the COSMO. In addition, to obtain an optimized solution in terms of prophylaxis and cleaning of the machine, PKB decided to install sixteen ceramic pumps with membrane valves for seal-free operations, allowing no (inaccessible product) retention areas.

These new technologies, which did not previously exist on the market, make the COSMO a simple and original combination that meets the needs and requirements of the cosmetic industry. Users benefit from the machine's SMED ("Single Minute Exchange of Dies") technique offering quick, easy, and tool-free changeover.

While maintaining a simple design for its machines, PKB chooses the most advanced technologies to provide reliable solutions for the ever more innovative and sophisticated packaging designs required by customers. These characteristics contribute to the excellent value of the company's range of machinery, especially for the production of many different formats. Economic advantages of the PKB multiformat approach include the ability to produce bottles of various shapes and sizes, a simplified range of machines, substantial savings in floor space, lower maintenance costs, and significant lower prices compared with a more bulky line because producing short run bottles of various shapes and sizes is cost effective.

PKB's multiformat expertise is also evident with its ROBO type semi-automatic filling/screw-on/crimping/push-fit machine with manual feed of the bottles and caps. This machine is configured with an infeed/outfeed conveyor and a push-fit module fitted on the conveyor. It is possible to add a bottle depucking machine at the end of the line, as well as a removable packaging components feeder (pumps, caps, etc.), allowing temporary automation to increase output on long production runs. This PKB line is the obvious choice for contract packers, but also for any perfume or cosmetics company requiring frequent format changes.

All the latest innovations from PKB will be presented in Poznan, Poland at the Taropak International Packaging Technology and Logistics Exhibition to be held September 16-19, 2003, hall 5, booth 53. The company will also exhibit its products at PACK EXPO International to be held in Chicago, November 7-11, 2004, and is currently seeking business contacts in both the United States and Canada.
