New Renishaw RESR Rotary Encoders Lower Cost and Complexity on High Accuracy, High Resolution Angular Positioning

Robust RESR Encoders combine high performance with high reliability, delivering speeds over 2000 rpm, resolution to 0.1 arc seconds, while saving on cost, space, and installation complexity

March 2003 -New RESR Rotary Encoders from Renishaw provide an easy-to-mount, versatile and reliable solution to high-resolution, high-accuracy angular positioning. Low-mass, low-inertia design provides accuracy to ±0.5 arc second, up to 129.6 million counts per revolution, and speeds to more than 2900 rpm with zero backlash. The non-contact optical encoders are being installed in some of the most demanding positioning applications, such as rotary tables and machining heads, robots,
semiconductor and fiberoptic manufacturing systems, and medical and lab equipment. Innovative one-piece design features low-profile ring with integral scale and large through hole. The space-saving configuration solves fit problems, while low mass and inertia help to maximize machine performance.

The versatile encoders come in a wide range of diameters and line count options - degrees, arc seconds and 2" - providing compatibility with various industry standard controllers and are available with digital quadrature outputs ranging from 27 arc seconds to 0.01 arc second resolutions.

Optional models provide UHV, non-magnetic, and ultra-low inertia capabilities.

Sized for shafts from 30 to 392 mm diameter (1.18" to 15.43"), the high-performance encoders provide line counts from 4096 to 64,800 with up to 2000X interpolation. This gives up to 129.6 million counts per revolution and resolutions down to 0.01 arc seconds with zero backlash.

Patented taper-mount design allows easy installation for easy installation and adjustment to simplify even the trickiest installations and eliminate run-out errors. A readhead LED provides a visual guide to ensure optimum system setup.

Non-contact readhead design and filtering optics provide high tolerance to dirt, scratches and greasy fingerprints that can cause other encoder systems to miscount. A repeatable reference mark is available with readheads to provide a home (datum) position.

The rotary ring encoders complement an extensive range of linear encoders created by Renishaw to deliver high reliability and outstanding precision in difficult manufacturing environments.
