Rotary Encoders are offered with analog interface.

Press Release Summary:

Available in single- or multi-turn models, MAGNETOCODE (MCD) family of rotary encoders enable electronic adjustment of measuring range. They use non-contacting Hall-effect sensors to measure rotations, and have memory system that keeps track of number of rotations that have occurred, even when instrument system is powered down. Available in solid and hollow shaft versions, encoders measure only 36.5 mm dia and can fit into tight spaces.

Compact, Cost-Efficient Encoders with an Analog Interface: MCD Series enables Electronic Adjustment of Measuring Range

Hamilton, New Jersey, July 2009 - POSITAL Inc. has introduced a new analog interface for its MAGNETOCODE (MCD) family of rotary encoders. These products are ideal for cost-sensitive applications that use simple analog-based measurement and control systems.

Analog-interface MCD encoders are available in single- or multi-turn models that provide several advantages over conventional potentiometers. Because MCD encoders use non-contacting Hall-effect sensors to measure rotations, they are more reliable than potentiometers - which can suffer from wear and contamination at the contact between the wiper and the resistive element. Moreover, the MCD encoders have a unique range adjustment feature: The encoder can be "taught" the rotary positions that correspond to the limits of travel of the machine that is connected to. Once this has been done, the encoder's internal electronics will automatically scale the output so that the full range of signal voltage exactly covers the full range of travel of the machine, thereby optimizing the accuracy of the measurement system. MCD encoders have a sophisticated memory system that keeps track of the number of rotations that have occurred, even if movements take place when the instrument system is powered down. This means that the output from the encoder is always an accurate measure of the absolute position of the equipment to which it is connected.

MCD encoders are robust, reliable and cost effective. They are available in solid and hollow shaft versions and, with a diameter of only 36.5 mm, they can fit into tight spaces.

About POSITAL

FRABA Inc. is the North American sister company of POSITAL GmbH, a highly specialized manufacturer of absolute rotary encoders and inclinometers based in Cologne, Germany. The company belongs to the FRABA Group which dates back to 1918, when its predecessor, Franz Baumgartner elektrische Apparate GmbH, was established to manufacture relays. Today, the group consists of six independent companies that develop and produce advanced industrial sensor technology and safety equipment.
