Rotary Encoder offers modular bus cover option.

Press Release Summary:

Dignalizer absolute optical rotary encoder features 36-bit resolution in multi-turn configuration. Bus cover system allows integration into bus systems using same base encoder unit. Encoder can measure 262,144 steps per revolution over 262,144 revolutions, which allows it to track over 68 billion steps with unique binary codes. Unit supports major bus system outputs, including SSI, CANopen, DeviceNet and Profibus, as well as CANbus outputs via bus cover.

Original Press Release:

Modular Bus Cover Available on Dignalizer 36-Bit Multi-turn Absolute Encoder

Southington, Conn. - June 24, 2003. Baumer Electric now offers a modular bus cover option on its Dignalizer absolute optical rotary encoder featuring 36 bit resolution in multi-turn configuration. The bus cover system allows for easy integration of the Dignalizer into a variety of popular bus systems using the same base encoder unit. The bus cover system increases its adaptability, dramatically reduces delivery times, and offers substantial cost savings over traditional, one-piece bus encoders.

The highest resolution absolute multi-turn encoder presently available on the market, the Dignalizer is capable of measuring 262,144 steps per revolution over 262,144 revolutions, which allows the encoder to track over 68 billion steps with unique binary codes. An innovative operating principle eliminates the bulky and breakage-prone traditional gear system used to track revolutions and allows for exceptional miniaturization of this encoder, which measures only 58 mm in diameter and 73.5 mm in depth and weighs just 370g. Internal monitoring electronics dramatically decrease the output lag experienced with other high-resolution encoders, allowing for extremely accurate monitoring of the rotary process as fast as 6000 rpm.

The Dignalizer supports most major bus system outputs, including SSI, CANopen, DeviceNet and Profibus, as well as CANbus outputs via the simply exchanged bus cover. Featuring 12 mm hollowshaft and various industry-standard shaft sizes, the Dignalizer is well suited to a wide array of highly-precise applications. It features 50G shock protection and IP 64 sealing, and will operate optimally in temperatures from -20 to 85°C. The encoder is also available in an 18 Bit single-turn version.
