Rotary Encoder IC suits motion sensing applications.

Press Release Summary:

Providing 12-bit resolution at speeds below 1,000 rpm, magnetic Model AS5045 delivers absolute angle information in digital format and targets applications where resolution below 0.1° of angle is required. User can continuously and simultaneously access serial digital output and PWM output. Housed in lead-free SSOP16 package and operating at 3.3 or 5 V, Model AS5045 is immune to magnet misalignment, air gap, and ambient temperature variations.

austriamicrosystems Introduces 12-bit Resolution Magnetic Rotary Encoder IC for High-Precision Motion Sensing Applications

Unterpremstaetten, Austria (June 7, 2005) - Continuing its leadership in magnetic rotary encoder ICs, austriamicrosystems introduces the AS5045, a 12-bit resolution device, as part of
its expanding family of magnetic rotary encoder standard ICs. The device provides absolute angle information in a digital format, and targets motion sensing applications in the industrial and automotive markets where a resolution below 0.1 degree of angle is required.

"There is a variety of motion sensing applications, where a minimum 12-bit resolution at low rotational speeds is required, such as torque measurement. The AS5045 addresses this requirement by providing 12-bit resolution at speeds below 1,000 revolutions per minute. Of course, the device operates at higher speeds as well, with reduced resolution," states Ralf
Kodritsch, Marketing Manager of austriamicrosystems.

The user can continuously access a serial digital output and pulse width modulated (PWM) output at the same time. The angular position information is provided in the form of a serial data stream and as a PWM signal with a resolution of 4096 positions per revolution (0.09° per step).

The mode selector pin enables the user to adapt the device to meet the requirements of either high-precision or higher-speed applications.

The AS5045 offers user-programmable zero-position setting and diagnostic features, as well as the option to cascade several devices in a daisy chain configuration. The device is immune to
magnet misalignment, air gap and ambient temperature variations. The AS5045 operates at either 3.3V or 5V. The operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +125°C. The AS5045 is
available in a lead-free SSOP16 (5.3mm x 6.2mm) package. The AS5045 will be available for sampling in August.
