Romaco Group at P-MEC 2008

Innovative Technologies for Best Results

Unique design combined with strong performance for individual
requirements characterize the machines and plants of Romaco.

Karlsruhe/Germany, 14.11.2008. At P-MEC 2008 in Mumbai, India,
Romaco will be presenting its new aseptic liquid filler Macofar VF 18 for
pharmaceutical parenterals and lyophilized products. With a maximum output
of 18,000 vials per hour the slim designed and GMP-standardized plant
achieves highest product safety.

The Noack N 921 demonstrates top level blister technology. With less than
four meters length the rotary sealing blister machine attains a maximum
packaging performance of up to 500 blisters per minute. The interchangeable
feeding unit QuickFeed accelerates change-over times and significantly
increases the plant's efficiency.

A further trade fair highlight is the Promatic P 91S, the fastest intermittent
motion cartoner of its class. With a maximum output of 140 cartons per
minute the plant sets new standards for the packaging industry. In line with
the Noack N 921 blister packaging machine the cartoner Promatic P 91S
presents an effective line for primary and secondary pharmaceutical
packaging.

The vertical heat-sealing machine Siebler HM 1/230 has a great impact on the
strip-packaging sector. Absolute reproducibility of all sealing parameters like
pressure, temperature and speed indicates highest accuracy during the whole
production process.

These products can be seen in hall 1, booth A02/A at P-MEC in Mumbai, India,
November 27 to 30, 2008.

Slim designed aseptic liquid filler Macofar VF 18
The aseptic liquid filler Romaco Macofar VF 18 is the perfect fit for the filling of
liquid or lyophilized pharmaceutical products. One of the outstanding features
is its unique slim design. The horizontal distance between the feeding hoses
and the machine front is less than 600 millimeters. The required space in the
"white area" is reduced to a minimum. The vertical distance between the
machine base and the filling area is big enough to avoid any turbulences and
particles around the open bottles. The machine offers a trough wall
installation which strictly separates the aseptic production area from the
technical area. The whole unit fulfils the high requirements of "Good
Manufacturing Practices" (GMP) for aseptic production processes in the clean
room class "Grade A".

This medium speed machine offers an output of 18.000 vials per hour. All
drives are realized with servo motors to allow very accurate and reproducible
processes. The integrated weighing stations check the weight of the vials
before and after filling. The control unit automatically adjusts the filling
volume, if necessary. Depending on the requirements of the application, the
machine is available with Isolator Technology, Restricted Access Barrier
Systems (RABS) and Laminar Flow. Through an easy and centralized
operation of the plant via the HMI touch screen panel, the necessity of manual
interaction is nearly ruled out. The changeover to other vials can be done in a
semi-automatic mode, which significantly increases product safety.
Efficient blistering for all batch sizes with the Noack N 921
The rotary sealing blister machine Noack N 921 impresses with its length of
less than four meters and its strong packaging performance of 500 blisters
per minute.

A minimum of required space and maximum efficiency are the
main characteristics of the compact and ergonomic Romaco plant. Balcony
design and servo drives improve product safety and harmonize all mechanical
movements. This results in highly precise production processes at very low
life cycle cost. Tool-free format change-over marks another advantage
especially for small batch sizes. The feeding unit QuickFeed with its unique
airglide system enables product changes within seconds. The complete unit is
manually removed for cleaning while production continues with an already
prepared unit.

The Noack N 921 offers absolute flexibility regarding blister layout and batch
size. Whether for tablets, soft or hard gelatine capsules and oblongs, the
N 921 offers specific blistering solutions for all applications. That includes
child-resistant and senior-friendly packages as well as coldform aluminum
blister and multi-layer lidding solutions. The transfer of the blisters is
optionally carried out laterally or parallel to the running direction, hereby
realizing all possible line configurations. QuickAdjust automatically adjusts the
run of the blister foils at the coding, perforation and cutting stations. During
production laser detectors immediately compensate deviations due to
different materials, thus guaranteeing constant high blister quality.
Flexible and compatible - the intermittent cartoner Promatic P 91S
With the horizontal intermittent cartoner Promatic P 91S in line with the
Noack N 921 blister packaging machine Romaco presents its competence for
primary and secondary packaging processes.

The Promatic P 91S horizontal intermittent motion cartoner from Romaco is considered the
fastest in its class. With a maximum output of 140 cartons per minute the
plant is the first to achieve the same level of performance as continuous
cartoners. It sets new standards in the field of packaging of pharmaceuticals
and cosmetics in folding boxes. The design of the machine allows any change
in format to be made directly by the shift personnel. This accelerates
production runs, particularly for small batch sizes, and provides a consistent
production flow. The cartoner is operated by a touch-screen which fully
automatically monitors the individual production steps and makes
adjustments, if required. All secondary packaging processes are hence
controlled flexibly and efficiently.

The balcony structure and the compact design of the Promatic P 91S cartoner
enable good access to all machine parts. This facilitates loading the folding
boxes and makes it easier to carry out any cleaning work. The plant is fully
equipped with servo driven motors, which means a significant reduction in
noise for the operating personnel. All movement sequences are harmonized
through the general use of hydraulics. A Venturi vacuum unit additionally
guarantees gentle product handling in the picking up and opening of the
folding boxes and in the placement of the package inserts. The total transfer
of materials runs over toothed pulleys; there is absolutely no use of chains or
toothed wheels. This results in low maintenance costs and high capacity
utilization.

Trendsetter: the vertical heat-sealing machine Siebler HM 1/230
In the strip-packaging sector, the Siebler HM 1/230 vertical heat-sealing
machine is a trendsetter for future technological development. The machine is
used for the packaging of solid pharmaceutical products such as tablets,
dragees, capsules and effervescent tablets. The single products are welded
into foil packages using a heat-sealing process. Strip packaging is preferred
for single doses used in hospitals and for drug samples, as well as for the
packaging of medication for single dosage use.

The medication is heat-sealed at packaging speeds of up to 5,000 cycles per
minute. The products can be fed into the machine on up to 16 foil strips and
be packaged simultaneously. Different foil widths can be selected with a
maximum of 750 millimeters. At the end of the heat-sealing process, the foil
is cut precisely to size and then stacked in finished product units. The
parameters sealing pressure, sealing speed and temperature are individually
adjustable and completely reproducible. High precision and high packaging
speed characterize the heat-sealing machines of Siebler type HM 1.
