Romaco FrymaKoruma at the European Coatings SHOW 2009

Karlsruhe/Germany, 20.02.2009. At the European Coatings SHOW 2009 in
Nuremberg/Germany, Romaco FrymaKoruma will be demonstrating milling
technology that meets high-level demands regarding quality and
performance. The CoBall® annular gap bead mill from FrymaKoruma is ideal
for the finest product milling. Flexible process parameter settings mean that
the technology is extremely versatile in use. It impresses with its reproducible
results, particularly its scale transferability, temperature control and its even
application of energy across the whole batch.

The CoBall®-mill can be seen from 31st March to 2nd April 2009 at the
European Coatings SHOW 2009 in Nuremberg/Germany, in Hall 10.0, Booth
10-336.

CoBall®-mill for the production of high quality paints and varnishes

The CoBall® annular gap bead mill from Romaco FrymaKoruma is applied for
the finest milling of products. In the paint and varnish industry, this mill is
used for milling paint pigments, printing inks and textile colors, as well as
different water- and solvent-based varnishes. The CoBall®-mill is designed
according to the rotor-stator principle. This system creates particle sizes down
to the nano-range of less than 0.1 micrometers (ìm) and is suitable for the
production of high-quality products.

With a width of 6.5 to 17 millimeters, the grinding gap is commensurately
narrow, which allows a significantly higher application of shear energy of six
to eight megawatts per cubic meter. The conical grinding gap can be filled up
to 80 percent with grinding beads, which are powerfully accelerated by the
rapidly rotating rotor. The proportionately large heat exchange surface of the
rotor and stator elements and the lid provide optimum cooling during the
production process.

CoBall®-mill technology is distinguished by accurately defined retention times
for the product. Due to the conical structure of the mill space, each product
element covers the same route and is subject to identical rebound, impact
and friction forces. All of the process parameters can also be adapted to the
special requirements of the materials being processed and are absolutely
reproducible. The grinding gap, the peripheral velocity of the rotor and the
rate of flow of the product are individually adjustable; both the size and
structure of the grinding beads and their degree of fill can also be tailored
individually.

When the product is discharged, the grinding beads are separated from the
grinded product using a sieving system and are fed back to the mill space.
During fully automatic cleaning using "Cleaning in Place" (CIP), the grinding
beads stay in the interior of the mill, which significantly simplifies and
accelerates the cleaning process. The short cleaning times and quick product
changes indicate how economical the FrymaKoruma CoBall®-mill is in use.
