Cornell and Cookson Introduce Unique Aesthetic Design Solutions to Coiling Doors

The new powder coated graphic solution provides outstanding images and first in the industry ‘faux’ finishes, combined with durability, ventilation and aesthetic design to rolling doors.

Mountain Top, PA – The Cookson Company, Inc. and Cornell Iron Works, Inc., both brands of CIW Enterprises, Inc., are pleased to introduce a new innovative process to place imagery and graphic designs on rolling steel doors, allowing exciting design solutions to be placed on functional doors and counter shutters.

Using a unique powder coating process, a variety of different images are able to be baked onto the coiling steel door, allowing logos, branding or product advertising to be displayed. ‘Faux’ finishes, such as wood grain, brick and marble – a first in the industry – are also available, allowing an architect to design the door as part of the finished interior or exterior design.

“During development, we found architects were very interested in the ‘faux’ finishes this process is able to offer,” states Jason Millard, leader of the Architectural & Design Team. “Especially as we can powder coat the finish on every part of the door – guides, coil boxes and brackets. This means the door really becomes part of the architect’s design.”

Compared to vinyl graphics, which can also be applied to coiling metal doors, powder coated graphics are much more durable. In addition, they can be applied to perforated doors, allowing ventilation and visibility, while still providing a great visual. Standard service doors, insulated doors, shutters and even closed fire doors can be powder coated.

The company has taken its first order recently – a metal shutter closing a counter between a boardroom and service kitchen. Says Millard, “The architect was very concerned about the aesthetics of a traditional metal counter shutter, since the rest of the boardroom’s design was very high end. We suggested adding a wood grain finish to the shutter and the guides. Looking at it you would think the shutter really is made from wood.”
