Roll Marking Tool handles 4,000 parts per hour.

Press Release Summary:

Mite-E-Roll high-speed pneumatic unit is available in three models for marking round parts from 1/8 to 2 in. dia. Three power options are available to cover variety of legend and material requirements and ensure proper marking pressure. Typically, as part diameter gets smaller, surface in contact gets smaller, requiring less power to imprint mark. Unit can be provided as separate stand-alone machine or as part of manufacturing system.

Columbia Marking Tools Introduces New High-Speed "Mite-E-Roll(TM)" Roll Marking Unit For Rounded Parts

Columbia Marking Tools introduces the new "Mite-E-Roll", a high-speed pneumatic roll marking unit specifically designed for roll marking round parts from 1/8 to 2-inches diameter at rates of up to 4,000 parts per hour.

Mite-E-Roll is available in three models with different diameter ranges. These include: a unit for parts from 1/8 to l/2-inch diameter; a unit for parts from l to 1-inch diameter; and a unit for parts from 1-2 inchs diameter. Three power options are also available to cover a variety of legend and material requirements to insure proper marking pressure. Typically, as the part diameter gets smaller, the surface in contact gets smaller, requiring less power to imprint the mark. The unit can be provided as a separate stand-alone machine or as part of a manufacturing system.

In operation, the round parts are fed in special feeding tracks, designed to correspond to the specific part configuration. The feeding tracks, both internal and external, are modular in design and can be easily removed for part-to-part changeover. The tracks are mounted in the center of the roll-marking head, between opposing low force; gear timed roll marking cross slides. A stop finger in the roll marking station holds the part in position and a fiber optic part present switch signals the pneumatic slide unit with stamp and back plate to cycle forward, contact the part and roll the straight stamp past the part. During marking, the part rotates about its own axis until the length of the mark is completed. Start and stop proximity switches indicate the beginning and end of the stroke and the part is moved out of the station as another one enters. Because roll marking is performed in both directions, the unit does not have to return to a start position to mark another part. This method of operation is the key to having the ability to perform high-production marking up to 4,000 parts per hour.

The unit basically uses standard low-cost straight stamps to perform the marking. The stamps are held in position with quick-change stamp holder mounting brackets. Units can be designed to use two half stamps as well, one on each side. This can provide a shorter stroke to improve production even more. The air inline filter, regulator and lubrication package can be mounted directly to the roll-marking unit, Fig. 1 or remotely as far as 3-ft. away.
