Rohde & Schwarz to Showcase 4K Solutions Across the Entire Video Transmission Path at NAB 2014

Rohde & Schwarz offers UHD-capable products for post-production, ingest, storage, playout, encoding and multiplexing, and transmission applications. The company's transmitter family helps North American and Latin American TV operators master the challenges of digital TV. Rohde & Schwarz can be found in the South Lower Hall at booth SL1605.

Munich — Rohde & Schwarz offers a complete line of solutions to help the broadcast industry adopt the high-resolution 4K standard. Through the CLIPSTER® mastering station from its subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz DVS, the company's 4K experience dates back to 2005. All of this technology is now available for TV as well. At NAB, Rohde & Schwarz DVS will demonstrate its 4K expertise, presenting both new and well-established UHD-capable products.

Visitors can take a closer look at the VENICE ingest and production server, which offers major advantages to broadcasters, particularly in live studio environments. The VENICE server opens up new possibilities for Avid outgest as well as studio playout at resolutions up to 4K. Faster processing between ingest and studio playout coupled with greater redundancy increases flexibility and workflow efficiency during studio production.

At NAB, Rohde & Schwarz DVS will launch its Pronto4K-HFR disk recorder, the latest addition to the family of products enabling high-quality video projection. Rohde & Schwarz DVS will also present a new innovative, scalable storage solution that can efficiently store the massive data volumes used in production environments with resolutions of up to 4K.

Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate its R&S AVHE100 headend, a system solution that is already fully compatible with the new HEVC (H.265) encoding standard for 4K and HD. The company will also introduce an expanded product line for encoding and multiplexing in ISDB-TB networks.

Rohde & Schwarz test instruments support the development and production of 4K consumer electronics. The R&S BTC broadcast test center offers users an all-in-one, single-box test environment for nearly all audio, video and multimedia applications. The test center also internally analyzes audio/video in real-time. The highly scalable, modular concept allows the R&S BTC to be customized to meet any customer requirement. It even supports the transmission of 4K signals to set-top boxes and TV sets.

The R&S VTC, R&S VTE and R&S VTS video testers enable extensive testing of consumer equipment with video processing. Since they support both analysis and generation of HDMI signals with resolutions up to 4K, users can test the interface (including the relevant control protocols and certification) as well as the entire system being evaluated.

The new R&S THV9, R&S TMV9 and R&S THR9 transmitter families from Rohde & Schwarz are ideal for broadcast networks in North and Latin America. They combine maximum energy efficiency and power density with innovative technologies, such as MultiTX which makes it possible to accommodate multiple transmitters in a single rack. These features enable network operators and broadcasters to lower the costs arising from high energy prices and rents.

Rohde & Schwarz transmitters support both analog and digital TV and radio standards, allowing customers to master the transition from analog to digital broadcasting. The R&S THR9 FM high-power transmitter family now even supports the latest HD RadioTM technology. It is the first FM transmitter on the market to use advanced liquid cooling technology and benefits from Rohde & Schwarz's many years of experience and thousands of installed liquid-cooled TV transmitters.

The R&S THU9 TV high-power transmitter offers a maximum output power of 50 kW with up to  42 percent energy efficiency, making it ideal for applications that in the past could only be covered using inductive output tube (IOT) transmitters. IOTs are still used in North America but could be replaced at any time. Thanks to state-of-the-art transistor technology, the R&S THU9 transmitters provide high redundancy and ensure easy and reliable operation.

Rohde & Schwarz can be found in the South Lower Hall at booth SL1605, where a press breakfast will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 9.30 a.m.
