Rockwell Automation Completes the Fieldbus Foundation's Host Interoperability Support Test (HIST)

Test completion provides customers with interoperability assurance that the Logix Control Platform performs as part of a FOUNDATION Fieldbus control system

MILWAUKEE, May 18, 2006 - To further demonstrate its commitment to helping its process industry customers optimize plant operations, boost reliability and increase efficiency, Rockwell Automation has announced that it has successfully completed the Host Interoperability Support (HIST) Test for its FOUNDATION fieldbus linking device. HIST certification ensures that the Allen-Bradley 1757-FFLD linking device, which bridges the FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 and HSE networks with EtherNet/IP, incorporates the robust functionality of FOUNDATION technology.

"The successful completion of this test demonstrates the expanded focus and ongoing commitment Rockwell Automation has made to process control," said Phil Muren, product marketing specialist, Rockwell Automation. "We're proud to offer HIST completion which is another step toward helping our customers better integrate intelligent field devices and their control systems."

The 1757-FFLD linking device provides dual communication capabilities, which supports the plant wide automation capabilities of Rockwell Automation, so manufacturers can, for example, use EtherNet/IP for their discrete applications and HSE for process applications - on a single wire. The linking device provides quick access to device information, resulting in reduced start-up time and more efficient operation. The device also minimizes programming and costs associated with creating and implementing a highly distributed control system in industries such as life sciences, food, oil and gas, and brewing and beverage.

"As the industry continues to move toward standardization, the HIST test is important because it gives users added assurance that their solutions will function as part of an open, interoperable control system," said Richard Timoney, president, Fieldbus Foundation.
