NKK Switches Offers Ultra-Miniature Rocker and Paddle Switches

Scottsdale, AZ (July 21, 2003) - Expanding its portfolio of ultra-miniature switches, NKK Switches introduces the GW series, a series of ultra-thin rocker and paddle switches, that meet the increasing demand for miniaturization, reliability and aesthetically pleasing user-interfaced products. Ideal for the telecom, handheld equipment, industrial/commercial and medical industries, the GW series is an inexpensive alternative to the standard subminiature switches currently available in the market.

The ultra-thin, ultra-miniature GW series of rocker and paddle actuated switches features NKK Switches' award-winning STC (Sliding Twin Crossbar) contact mechanism. This innovative contact design guarantees unparalleled logic level switching reliability. The detent mechanism of the GW series consists of a coil spring, plunger and plastic detent, resulting in crisp and positive actuation. This series uses a combination of rounded movable and stationary contacts to provide a smooth contact feel, and the gold-plated contacts are wiped clean with each actuation.

The GW series of rockers and paddles is available in both single pole-double throw and double pole-double throw circuit configurations that are ON ON. They are rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. Design engineers can choose from various colored rocker or paddle actuators, and from several terminal options including straight PC, right angle bracketed PC and vertical bracketed PC mounts. The PC footprint is .100" X .100m," conforming to standard PCB layout. Molded-in terminals and an internal o-ring between the base and housing keep out flux, solvents and other contaminants. The combination of dust covers and closely-fit housing, actuator and interior pivot, provides additional protection for the contacts.

The GW series' extremely thin size, at 4.5mm thick, .7mm long, and 7mm tall, combined with a UL rating of 94V-0 for flammability, makes it ideal for stringent telecom applications and handheld instruments. It is an inexpensive, reliable, effective switch option for today's demanding and competitive marketplace.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than three million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches.
