Replenishment Solution Drives Down Small Parts Inventories

Aerospace manufacturers and component suppliers can reduce inventories and increase the availability of small items, like fasteners, with an innovative replenishment management system (RMS) developed in the UK.

Programmed to meet the specific requirements of aerospace supply chains, and cater to the needs of multiple supplier operations and outsourcing, the AeroScape RMS, from Waer Systems, is designed to reduce parts shortages while maintaining substantially lower overall inventory levels. The system offers high levels of visibility, control and flexibility, and allows shop-floor personnel and management to react to real-time usage data, while identifying and adapting to changes in demand as they occur.

Implemented in line with the configuration of users' existing warehouses, AeroScape has been developed to offer maximum efficiency in parts flow and task assignment. Items are tracked right to the moment they are fitted - even items that are being moved within the warehouse can be located, re-assigned and re-tasked.

With the use of the system, as well as the ability to work from a detailed priority-based task list, warehouse staff can automatically adjust their task paths to match present locations in the warehouse simply by scanning the most convenient location.

AeroScape's automated cross-docking feature allows users to "cut corners" in the workflow without sacrificing accountability - thereby overcoming parts shortages. A dynamic quantity-sizing facility instructs personnel to re-size existing lots and then tracks the new lots to their end points, while escalating the delivery of replenishment stock.

Features include advance shipping notes (ASNs), licence plate technology, the ability to assign multiple stocking codes/product numbers to each part, automated kitting and sub-assembly capabilities, and a direct line feed (DLF) module.
