Riveting System pierces and fastens in one operation.

Press Release Summary:

Fastriv® System joins materials without creating heat-affected zone, preventing shrinking and minimizing distortion. It eliminates insertion holes, misalignment, and environmental hazards of spot welding, such as fumes and sparks. Fastriv joins materials such as sheet metals, plastics, aluminum, rubber, nylon webbing, and other components. Rivets are manufactured in steel in 3.2, 3.9, and 4.8 mm sizes. Head styles include countersunk, oval, and tinman.

Fastriv® Pierce Riveting System Pierces and Fastens in One Easy Operation

TROY, MI - (June 24, 2002) - The Fastriv® pierce rivet fastening system, from Textron Fastening Systems, is engineered to pierce and fasten in one operation, simplifying assembly and reducing costs, while providing a strong, reliable joint. They are an excellent fastening solution where welding is impossible or undesirable, such as joining dissimilar materials or pre-coated sheets.

During installation, the Fastriv rivet is fed into a riveting module while the installation tool clamps the sheets to be joined. The rivet then pierces the top sheet and radially expands into the bottom sheet without penetrating it in order to create an interlock between the rivet and the application materials. Since the Fastriv system pierces and installs in one operation, it eliminates insertion holes and misalignment.

This engineered system allows manufacturers to join such materials as sheet metals, plastics, aluminum, rubber, nylon webbing and other components. In addition, it can joint more
than two components in many applications.

Ideally designed to replace spot welds, the Fastriv system joins materials without creating a heat-affected zone, thereby preventing shrinking and minimizing distortion and other material changes. It also eliminates the environmental hazards of spot welding operations, such as fumes and sparks.

Fastriv rivets are manufactured in steel in sizes 3.2mm, 3.9mm and 4.8mm. Available head styles include countersunk, oval and tinman. Also, the Fastriv system combines the specially-designed pierce rivets with a wide range of installation tooling, including hand-operated tools up to fully-automated systems.
