Maxim Expands its MAXQ61x Microcontroller Family with the Reduced-Cost MAXQ613

16-bit RISC microcontroller reduces power consumption and increases flexibility.

The MAXQ613 offers the same battery-life savings as the MAXQ610 along with a reduced memory footprint for lower cost applications.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAXQ613, a high-performance, 16-bit RISC microcontroller with an integrated infrared (IR) transceiver. Based on the highly successful MAXQ610 microcontroller, the MAXQ613 contains a reduced memory footprint (48KB flash, 1.5KB SRAM), which provides more flexibility to system designers. For applications that do not require the larger memory resources provided by the MAXQ610 (64KB flash, 2KB SRAM), the MAXQ613 allows selection of a smaller memory size to reduce system cost. It is ideal for low-power applications such as sensors, infrared remote controls, meters, and data loggers.

The MAXQ613 operates from a 1.7V to 3.6V external supply, which allows it to be powered directly from two standard AA cells. Since the end-of-life voltage for a AA cell pair is approximately 1.6V, this supply range allows 95% of the battery capacity to be utilized. It effectively increases battery life by up to 15% over conventional solutions (which only operate down to 2.0V), thus extending operation by several months in many applications. To further increase battery life, the MAXQ613 consumes an ultra-low 200nA (typ) in stop-mode operation.

This highly integrated microcontroller includes a USART, an SPI(TM) master/slave communication port, an IR module with carrier-frequency generation, and up to 24 general-purpose I/O pins. Additionally, the MAXQ613 provides a secure memory-management unit (MMU) to prevent device cloning and unauthorized access to sensitive application code. It is ideally suited for remote controls, security systems, thermostats, blood pressure monitors, and a wide variety of other consumer and medical applications.

The MAXQ613 is available in a 32-pin TQFN/LQFP or 44-pin TQFN/TQFP; it is also available as bare die (contact the factory for detailed information and availability). Prices start at $1.32 (1000-up, FOB USA). To speed designs, Maxim's website offers many application notes and software examples to use with the MAXQ® family of products (www.maxim-ic.com/MAXQ).
