Original Press Release:

GENE-1270 Subcompact RISC Board with Intel PXA270 CPU, 2 Coms, 1 USB 1.1 Host + 1 Client, 10/100 LAN, 2700G Display with MPEG2/4 Decoder, Compactflash and SDIO Sockets

AAEON announces a cutting-edge technology product - the GENE-1270 which utilizes the Intel® Xscale PXA270. In the IPC industry, AAEON is an Intel Leader Account which permits us to launch this product by adopting an Intel® Yonah/Calistoga-based processor. This RISC CPU module features low power consumption and cost-efficiency, to fulfill the requirements of rugged and more cost-focused applications.

The module has 2 COM ports (1 RS-232, 1 RS-232/485), 1 USB1.1 host, 1 USB1.1 Client, 4-port Digital I/O, 10/100 Ethernet, to connect and control peripheral devices. CF and SDIO slots allow external expansion. The CPU frequency is at 533MHz and allows great performance. In addition, the GENE-1270 can work with the Intel 2700G3 Display Companion Chipset, which not only provides MPEG2/4 video decoding, but also 2D/3D acceleration. GENE-1270 offers a dual view feature using the built-in display function. Built with the Intel Xscale PXA270, the GENE-1270 is a highly integrated unit making it suitable for rugged mobile applications.

Some other notable features include an audio port, JTAG port for programming, onboard Intel® StrataFlash 32MB solid state storage, support for 4-wire resistive touch screens and an wide power input range of +9V to +24V DC. This board was designed to support Windows CE 5.0.

Although the Intel PXA 270 has the same kernel as the PXA250, the PXA 270 has been improved to save more power and multimedia support has been enlarged. The power-saving contribution helps the GENE-1270 to run rich multimedia applications and perform excellently. In addition, the GENE-1270 has a robust operating temperature range of 0oC to 70oC. The GENE-1270 is no doubt the best solution for vehicle PC and mobile device target markets.
