Clear, Gamma-Stable Rigid PVC Medical Molding Compound Provides Lower-Cost Alternative to Standard Engineering Resins

ANAHEIM, CA, U.S.A.: A new gamma-stable rigid PVC injection molding compound provides the clarity and toughness required for tubing connectors, luer locks, valves, drip chambers, instrument handles, and similar medical components, it was announced at MD&M West by the Vinyl Division of Teknor Apex Company (Booth 2115).

Apex® RM 8001R-NT is a low-odor compound that retains initial clarity or color upon exposure to gamma irradiation in standard sterilization procedures, according to Michael J. Renzi, business development manager.

"Apex RM 8001R-NT compound is a tough, stiff material well suited to be a lower-cost alternative to conventional engineering thermoplastics, particularly in small parts," said Renzi. "The formulation of this product has benefited from decades of Teknor Apex experience in manufacturing flexible PVC medical compounds."

The new compound has been tested for compliance with ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity standards.
