New RFID Starter Kit from Avery Dennison Printer Systems

Offers Turnkey Gen 2 Label Solution

Economically priced kit includes advanced RFID Gen 2 label printer, easy-to-use software, and installation and technical support

PHILADELPHIA-A new competitively priced, multi-component starter package that supports the production of Gen 2 RFID labels is now available from Avery Dennison Printer Systems. The package, called the Avery Dennison(TM) Basic Gen 2 Starter Kit, supplies companies facing current or approaching RFID compliance labeling requirements with the essential components necessary to initiate RFID Gen 2 labeling operations. The system is recommended for use in the apparel, footwear, retail, packaging, distribution and a broad range of industrial markets.

The Avery Dennison Basic Gen 2 Starter Kit contains the Avery Dennison(TM) AP 5.4(TM) RFID Printer, Windows®-compliant Label Management System (LMS) software and a starter roll of RFID carton/pallet labels. Also included are on-site installation assistance from Avery Dennison Printer Systems technical experts and toll-free phone technical support. The starter kit is priced at $6,195.

"The Basic Gen 2 Starter Kit is an economical solution for companies that must meet Gen 2 compliance mandates and have medium-duty label production requirements," says Dan Williams, marketing manager, Avery Dennison Printer Systems. "With the Gen 2 starter kit, even companies having little or no RFID labeling experience can quickly get up to speed and initiate RFID Gen 2 labeling activities."

RFID Printer and Software Components
The starter kit's Avery Dennison AP 5.4 RFID printer encodes and verifies RFID Gen 2 and Gen 1 chips and prints all popular bar codes, graphics and copy on label surfaces. Its detect-and-reject capability automatically identifies "bad" labels with a printed marker. The AP 5.4 has advanced communications features, including Ethernet, serial and parallel interfaces.

Avery Dennison's LMS software program features Wizard-driven screens and design tools that guide users through the label-creation process. The program is preformatted with sample RFID labels.

Upgraded Industrial-Level Starter Kit
In a related development, the Avery Dennison Industrial RFID Starter Kit, introduced in early 2005, has been upgraded for RFID Gen 2 operation. The industrial-grade package includes the Avery Dennison(TM) 64-05(TM) RFID Printer, which features near-edge print technology and a 64-bit microprocessor. The printer's "jump-the-bump" technology lifts the printhead over embedded RFID microchips, preventing the risk of damage to encoded labels. The Industrial Gen 2 RFID Starter Kit is priced at $7,395.
