Sirit Introduces New HF RFID Reader Module

INfinity 196 designed to address emerging high frequency applications and secure transaction market opportunities

TORONTO, Feb. 15 / -- Sirit Inc. (TSX: SI), a leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, is pleased to introduce the INfinity 196, a high frequency (HF - 13.56 MHz) reader module designed to address a wide array of HF applications including cashless payments, secure transactions, access control, identify or product verification, and item level tracking in supply chain applications.

The INfinity 196 multi-protocol embedded RFID reader has been designed in a compact yet powerful form factor allowing for easy integration into handheld portable data terminals, mobile computers, cashless payment and fixed terminals and other OEM devices. The 196 supports commonly used protocols including ISO 15693 and Philips I-Code while also supporting secure, encrypted applications using ISO 14443, MIFARE(R) Ultralight and MIFARE(R) Classic.

The INfinity 196 design incorporates the Philips RC632 chip facilitating secure encrypted tag to reader communication used in many cashless payment and secure transaction applications throughout the world. Support for multiple levels of the MIFARE(R) protocol including MIFARE Ultralight and MIFARE Classic are native to the first release of the INfinity 196. The 196 has also been designed for field firmware upgradeability and has the ability to support MIFARE(R) DESFire, the Philips contactless tag that is becoming popular for secure, encrypted transactions in cashless payment and other applications requiring a high level of security.

Ideally suited for use in industrial mobile computers and fixed mount terminals in supply chain applications, robotics, point of sale terminals, vending machines and medical equipment, the INfinity 196 is available in both production board versions and as part of a System Developer's Kit (SDK) which allows OEM and third party developers to exercise the capability of the module and integrate it into a variety of end user products.

"We are pleased to announce this latest addition to Sirit's INfinity family of OEM module products," stated Fred Veinot, Vice President Product Management, Sirit Inc. "Developing products that span the myriad of commercially viable operating frequencies has been a core strategy of Sirit for many years. The INfinity 196 represents an embedded platform to support applications ranging from item level tracking to cashless payments. Sirit believes that high frequency technology operating at 13.56 MHz will continue to coexist with UHF technology and has fundamental operating characteristics that are key to a number of applications."

Sirit's full range of INfinity series OEM modules support low (134.2/125 kHz), high (13.56 MHz) and ultra-high (902 - 928 MHz) frequencies and multiple protocols including EPCglobal(TM) Class 0/0+/1 and Gen 2.
