G2 Microsystems Works with Microsoft to Deliver Low Cost RFID and Sensing Solution

G2 Microsystems Enables Sensor Data to Be Communicated through Wi-Fi (TM) Access Points to Microsoft BizTalk Server

CAMPBELL, Calif., June 6 -- G2 Microsystems Inc., a developer of integrated circuits for the location and sensor network market, today announced that it has developed a device provider for Microsoft BizTalk RFID. This enables ultra low-power devices to monitor environmental data and report through a Wi-Fi access point to Microsoft BizTalk RFID. By taking advantage of the pervasive Wi-Fi networks and Windows-based technology, G2 Microsystems is enabling a low-cost solution for identifying, sensing and monitoring various conditions such as temperature, humidity, light, security, motion, pressure and location.

Many telemetry applications today rely on proprietary or wired solutions that require significant expenditures on new infrastructure and back-office integration. G2 Microsystems has developed an ultra low-power system-on-a- chip (SoC) that integrates Wi-Fi with RFID technology and sensors, allowing battery-backed devices to sense and report for up to five years with no incremental infrastructure cost. Microsoft BizTalk RFID provides device abstraction, data filtering and event handling while allowing G2-based tags to transmit sensor data through the widely-deployed Wi-Fi(TM) (IEEE 802.11) network infrastructure to the BizTalk RFID. Companies and individuals can now deploy low-cost wireless sensing solutions with just a G2-based tag and Microsoft's software.

"Utilizing the large Wi-Fi installed base to monitor assets or conditions of assets in real time offers significant opportunities to streamline business processes," said Burley Kawasaki, group product manager in the BizTalk Server product management group at Microsoft Corp. "We are very pleased that G2 Microsystems has developed a Wi-Fi-based device for BizTalk RFID. Together, our solutions will allow people to monitor conditions both locally and remotely in a cost-effective and distributed manner."

"We are collaborating with Microsoft to bring low-cost wireless sensing solutions to markets such as home healthcare, process monitoring, and building services," said John Gloekler, Chief Executive Officer and President of G2 Microsystems. "Microsoft BizTalk RFID will help simplify the development of applications for these markets and devices based on G2 Microsystems' technology will simplify the deployment."

G2 Microsystems' SoC is a highly integrated, ultra low-power solution specifically designed for both sensor and/or location applications. A battery backed device incorporating the G2 Microsystems' SoC can monitor its environment including temperature, humidity, pressure, chemical, security seals, motion, shock, light, and radiation; determine its location; and communicate via the Wi-Fi infrastructure for up to five years without replacing the battery. This enables a business to install a sensing solution with no additional network or back office integration costs, and very low maintenance costs.
