TriQuint Announces TRIUMF, Next Generation 3G Converged RF Architecture for Mobile Devices

TRIUMF Module Architecture Supports Scalable, Multi-Mode, Multi-Band 3G/4G RF Solution

HILLSBORO, Ore., Feb. 5 -- TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ:TQNT), a leading RF front-end product manufacturer and foundry services provider, today introduced its TRIUMF Module(TM) family, convergence architecture for mobile device manufacturers designing next generation 3G/4G products. The TRIUMF - TriQuint Unified Mobile Front-end - Module family will offer manufacturers a streamlined radio frequency footprint combining GSM, EDGE, WCDMA and HSPA transmit functionality into one module. This convergence of functionality into one power amplifier module should offer up to a 50 percent size reduction over today's multi-band module solutions.

3G convergence refers to the ability to support numerous frequency bands and air-interface modes like GSM, EDGE, WCDMA and HSPA used in 3G mobile devices, into one highly-integrated, streamlined RF module. TriQuint's TRIUMF module architecture will enable manufacturers to use the converged module in place of multiple discrete modules, saving precious board space for features such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth(R), cameras, and FM radios.

"TriQuint set the industry standard for size and performance with its highly-integrated TRITIUM and QUANTUM Module families for 3G devices. We are using this expertise and ability to design both active and passive RF elements into one elegant RF system solution in the development of the TRIUMF Module family. TRIUMF will take integration to a whole new level, combining support for multiple frequency bands and modes into a single converged solution," said Andreas Nitschke, Product Marketing Manager for mobile handsets at TriQuint. "We are working closely with our chipset partners and customers to implement the architecture for next generation 3G and 4G devices with world-class RF performance in an industry leading size."

The TRIUMF architecture will feature:

-- 3G and 4G solutions: The TRIUMF Module family will support 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) standards.
-- Multi-Mode: The TRIUMF Module family will support GSM/GPRS/EDGE for voice and lower rate data and WCDMA/HSPA/LTE for high speed data.
-- Multiband: The TRIUMF Module family will feature the traditional Quad Band GSM850/900/DCS1800/PCS1900 bands "unified" with options for the 3GPP designated Bands 1 through 17 enabling worldwide WCDMA/HSPA/LTE coverage.
-- Scalability: The TRIUMF Module family will work seamlessly in a variety of board configurations including 3G low-cost, middle tier and high-end smartphones, as well as 3G/4G data-cards.
-- System Level Validation: The TRIUMF Module family will be designed in close alignment with industry leading 3G chipset solutions and optimized towards FTA readiness.

The TRIUMF Module family architecture will offer customers numerous benefits including:

-- Long Battery Life: Electrical interfaces will be optimized for maximum efficiency to enable lowest current consumption.
-- Reduced bill-of-materials: Combining four separate PA modules into one lowers inventory and centralizes sourcing with one preferred vendor, while cutting handset assembly cost.
-- Miniaturization of the RF system: A single converged PA module coupled with antenna switching, mode/band switch and duplexers will reduce front-end board area.

TriQuint is developing the TRIUMF Module family in close cooperation with selected customers and partners. Customers interested in learning more about the benefits of this architecture should contact info-handset-partdata@tqs.com

TriQuint will discuss its full range of innovative RF solutions at the 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain 16-19 February. Visit our booth in Hall 1, 1A62 to learn more about TriQuint's latest products.
