ITT Industries, Cannon Launches All-Metal FAKRA Connectors for Vehicle Applications
New features ensure robustness, simplify installation...
SANTA ANA, CA (September 23, 2003) - ITT Industries, Cannon's new range of FAKRA RF connectors feature an all-metal construction which greatly increases robustness and simplifies installation. FAKRA is a standard developed by the DIN group which specifies the electrical performance and interface of RF connectors for use in road vehicle applications.
Explains product manager, Ted Worroll, "most FAKRA designs incorporate a push-fit plastic interface sleeve at the front end for mechanism keying and latching, which can easily become dislodged during mating."
Cannon's single-piece die cast connector has no plastic insert, therefore devices are much more robust and easier to install. In addition, current FAKRA connectors can be difficult to mount on a PCB as they tend to be front-heavy and tip off the board prior to soldering.
To eliminate this problem and further simplify installation, Cannon has altered the center of gravity of the connector by including more material at the back end of the device.
Cannon's new FAKRA connectors are available in one-, two- and three-way versions for high density.
The 0-4GHz FAKRA series devices are color-coded in accordance with the FAKRA standard. Cannon currently offers the five most common versions - Code A, black (DAB); Code B, natural (DAB with power); Code C, blue (GPS); and Code D, violet (cell phone). Other benefits include an insertion loss performance of 0.35dB and an improved VSWR.
Worroll concludes,"we offer these devices from stock or on a leadtime of four weeks - half that of some of our competitors. They are also extremely competitively priced - typical price for a single way device in small quantities is $0.90 - and samples are readily available."
