Rexroth Motion Logic Control with Robotics Wins Engineers' Choice Award from Control Engineering Magazine

Rexroth's IndraMotion MLC with embedded robotics won the 2008 Engineer's Choice Award from Control Engineering magazine.

Control Engineering magazine readers recognize Bosch Rexroth for high-performance IndraMotion MLC motion, logic and robotics controller.

(Hoffman Estates, IL - www.boschrexroth-us.com/) Bosch Rexroth's innovative IndraMotion MLC motion logic controller with embedded robotics recently won Control Engineering magazine's 2008 Engineers' Choice Award in the "Motors, Drives, and Motion Control" category.

Control Engineering made the announcement in February with a special supplement to the magazine along with an Engineers' Choice listing at www.controleng.com. Voting for the award was conducted earlier in 2008 by those who have the most experience with the products: the magazine's readers.

Rexroth's IndraMotion MLC controller combines motion and logic with robotic control on a uniform IEC platform. It features powerful embedded robotic capabilities and allows for greater flexibility and increased use of robots in factory applications and lowers automation costs considerably. The IndraMotion MLC offers a full six-axis path planner, with the ability to run multiple kinematics at the same time. Features include up to 64 axes of control, dynamic belt synchronization for multiple conveyors, and integrated vision system interface. A kinematic wizard is available for easy configuration. This control platform uses an all Ethernet-based SERCOS III network as standard drive interface, remote I/O interface and vision system integration.

The IndraMotion MLC controller works in conjunction with Rexroth's IndraControl L65 PAC. This product is ideal for general automation, printing, converting, packaging, machine tool and other industries. The IEC-compliant IndraControl L65 features 36 megabytes of program memory for extensive multitasking and running multiple device profiles. With a 1-GHz Intel Celeron M processor, the L65 provides outstanding performance for motion-logic applications with the highest demands. To save memory space and help improve scan time, Rexroth's L65 PAC also incorporates reusable code, reducing scan rate by 50 percent versus comparable PACs currently on the market.

To save valuable engineering time, the IndraControl L65 comes with dozens of PLCopen machine functions that are pre-programmed according to IEC61131-3 standards. Rexroth also offers scalable hardware allowing machine builders to re-use programs from other Rexroth PLCs and PACs without requiring different configurations or multiple versions. In addition, all Rexroth PLCs and PACs, including the IndraControl L65 can be programmed with the same Rexroth IndraWorks unified software program for seamless engineering, alleviating the need for a separate program for each PLC or PAC model across the family.

"As in past years, this year's Engineers' Choice contest drew a heavy amount of voting in each of the 25 categories," says David Greenfield, editorial director for Control Engineering. "The high level of recognition and respect among Control Engineering subscribers for Bosch Rexroth's IndraControl MLC Integrated Motion Logic Controller indicates increasing interest in this category of motion controllers and admiration for Bosch Rexroth's product."
