MAQUET Medical Systems USA Launches LED Concealed Lighting System for Labor, Delivery and Recovery Room

New offering complements MAQUET's existing portfolio of innovative hospital lighting

WAYNE, N.J. -- MAQUET Medical Systems USA, a leading provider of surgical and hospital lighting, today announced the launch of its LED (light emitting diodes) Concealed Lighting System for the Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) room. The retractable light sets a new standard in illumination quality, comfort and operational efficiency during the birthing process.

"As a pioneer in concealed lighting systems, we are constantly striving to offer innovative lighting products that will improve physician workflow and patient care," said Raoul Quintero, President and Chief Executive Officer of MAQUET Medical Systems. "This is especially true for the obstetrics market, where hospitals continue to invest in remodeling and building high-tech modern labor delivery recovery facilities. We believe that our LED Concealed Lighting System will allow physicians to more easily perform patient exams in the fast-paced labor and delivery environment, while supporting the comfort and care of the mother and newborn."

About the LED Concealed Lighting System

The retractable LED Concealed Lighting System is designed to provide high-quality lighting and reduce clutter in the labor, delivery and recovery room. The System offers a lighthead that can be effortlessly accessed from the ceiling, easily maneuvered and set in an optimized position for patient exams. Furthermore, the unique lighting technology provides shadow-free, quality illumination, cool color temperature for accurate tissue rendering, and minimal heat output for physician comfort. The System has an aesthetically pleasing back panel comfort light to help create a warm and nurturing environment in the hospital setting and offers a safety mechanism that prevents the ceiling light door from closing if obstructed.

About Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDR/LDRP) Rooms

Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDR/LDRP) rooms provide a family-centric, relaxed atmosphere during the birthing process while offering the highest standard of care for mothers and newborns. Research has shown that combined LDR/LDRP units may work well in high-volume obstetrical services and potentially offer diverse clinical expertise to patients and increased flexibility to hospital administrators in managing costs.[*]

The U.S. Census Bureau anticipates that after a long decline, U.S. birth rates will climb significantly over the next 15 years. To meet this demand and compete in the marketplace, hospitals have committed millions of dollars to the development of LDR/LDRP rooms, as they are believed to help hospitals build market share, increase efficiency and attract a better payer mix and staff.
