Resistive Touch Panels utilize 7-wire technology.

Press Release Summary:

Series FID-550 17 in. panels accept pen or finger input and have minimum input life of ten million operations. Outer dimensions are 294 x 369 mm, while usable, active touch area measures 271 x 338 mm. Seven-wire technology uses only stable glass layer to detect input, resulting in 1.5% linearity over life of product. Four sense-lines monitor resistance of glass and automatically compensate for variation caused by physical or environmental changes.

Fujitsu Expands Its 7-Wire Touch Panel Offering

Larger Panels Address Emerging Applications

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- April 20, 2004 -- Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today announced it has expanded its 7-wire resistive touch panel offering with the addition of a 17-inch (diagonal) standard product. The company now offers OEMs and VARs a line of standard 7-wire touch panels ranging in size from 8.4 inches to 17 inches.

The new 17-inch panel is targeted for man-machine interface functions in instrumentation, process controls, intelligent kiosks and other emerging applications such as electronic voting machines. It accepts either pen or finger input, has a minimum input life of ten million operations, 80 percent minimum transparency and an operating temperature range of -5 to 60 degrees C.

The 17-inch panel has outer dimensions measuring 294mm (H) x 369mm (W). Its usable, active touch area measures 271mm (H) x 338mm (W), due to Fujitsu's narrow frame technology. The panel features 1.8mm-thick glass and weighs 516g.

Offering an alternative to industry-standard, 5-wire resistive panels, Fujitsu's 7-wire technology uses only the stable glass layer to detect input, resulting in 1.5 percent linearity over the guaranteed life of the product. Four sense-lines monitor the resistance of the glass and automatically compensate for any variation caused by physical or environmental changes.

Precisely controlling the micro-dot height and spacing patterns, along with an airtight panel construction, prevents Newton Ring formation and moiré effect. Optional optical enhancements, including transmissivity up to 92%, anti-glare and anti-smudge treatments, are also available.

Available immediately, the standard 17-inch FID-550 series touch panels have a suggested resale price of $104.00 each for quantities of 1,000 or greater. Lead time is stock to 16 weeks ARO.
