Sony Introduces TRX-1 Resin Ribbons

UV-Light Curable Technology Enhances Durability of Images

MOUNT PLEASANT, PA. (September 27, 2002) - Sony Chemicals Corporation, the world leader in thermal transfer ribbon technology, has recently introduced a specialty resin ribbon which uses UV-light curable technology to allow thermal transfer printing and thermal-printed images in demanding environments.

TRX-1 resin ribbon creates the most durable thermal transfer images available that are specially designed to perform within a variety of demanding environments, and offers extreme chemical, abrasion, and high temperature resistance.

"TRX-1 takes thermal transfer printing to a new level, it opens up markets and applications" according to Lance Moyer, Sony Product Manager.

The TRX-1 series of ribbons feature Sony's SmoothCoat(TM) backcoat, which provides unparalleled printhead protection, therefore extending printhead life. Performance characteristics of the ribbons depend on the utilization of the UV-light curable technology, which involves cross-linked polymers forming after printing and exposure to UV light.

TRX-1 ribbons can eliminate the need for overlaminated, anodized or etched labels because they provide unmatched solvent and chemical resistance. Some of these solvents and chemicals include: methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), toluene, xylene, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), gasoline, and brake fluid. Other features of the TRX-1 ribbons include a special release primer, printability on a wide range of substrates, and heat resistance greater than 700 degrees F.
