Residents, Vacationers and Elected Officials Will Enjoy More Reliable Wireless Service in Traverse City

Verizon Wireless Boosts Network Coverage and Capacity in Time for July Events

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., July 13 /- Verizon Wireless announced today that it has improved coverage and boosted capacity by 150 percent in Traverse City in time for the National Cherry Festival (July 7-14) and the 99th Annual National Governors Association (NGA) Meeting (July 20-23).

The network upgrades will enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive email and text, picture and video messages; and download music, games and ringtones while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The improvements include upgrading several permanent cell sites in the Grand Traverse Bay area as well as activating a temporary cell site, also referred to as a COW (cell on wheels). The COW is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location. Verizon Wireless herded in its COW at the Grand Traverse Resort.

The network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Michigan and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $39 billion in the last seven years - $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. More than $915 million of this investment was spent in Michigan.
