Replicating Tool facilitates assay miniaturization.

Press Release Summary:

High-Density Replicating (HDR) Tool transfers submicroliter volumes on Biomek FX Liquid Handling System. In 96- or 384-pin configuration, it can array multiple spots in single plate well. Each pin can be removed to create patterns for glass slide microarrays. Pins for HDR tool are available in 3 shapes and 2 diameters (0.015 and 0.045 in.) allowing users to fine-tune configurations for specific liquids.

Original Press Release:

High-Density Replication Tool Facilitates Assay Miniaturization on the Biomek(R) FX Liquid Handling System

Fullerton, California, May, 2002 - Beckman Coulter, Inc. announces a new High-Density Replicating (HDR) tool for the transfer of submicroliter volumes on the Biomek FX Liquid Handling System. This new capability is ideal for primary and secondary screening applications, compound transfer and cell-based assays. It will also perform plate replication without the use of a traditional pipettor. In either a 96- or 384-pin configuration, the HDR tool can array multiple spots in a single plate well. Each pin can also be removed to create patterns for glass slide microarrays. The Biomek FX gripper functions with the HDR tool in place, allowing on-the-fly worksurface reconfiguration. Because different liquid types can affect transfer volumes, pins for the HDR tool are available in three shapes and two diameters: 0.015 in. and 0.045 in., allowing users to fine-tune configurations for specific liquids. Accessories including circulating reservoirs and drying fans clean the tool between each transfer to prevent cross-contamination. "The ability to increase throughput and miniaturize the assay is key," explains Jason Fawcett, Automated Solutions Product Manager for the Biomek FX. "The HDR tool offers the capability to do more with less." Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a global biomedical company, headquartered in Fullerton, California.
