Renishaw Receives Patents for Easy-Aim Laser Beam Steerer That Saves Time and Effort In Machine Calibration

LS350 beam steerer uses simple levers to rapidly align the laser beam in horizontal and vertical planes

June 2006 - Renishaw has received U.S. and U.K. patents for its easy-aim LS350 laser beam steerer that brings simple, fast setup to laser calibration. The LS350 was designed to enable both new and experienced users to speed through linear, angular, and straightness measurements for laser interferometer calibration of machine tools, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and aerospace manufacturing systems down to semiconductor and electronics production equipment and other precision, miniaturized devices. Complex optical set-ups such as vertical straightness and squareness can be performed much quicker.

Simply by sliding horizontal or vertical control levers, the LS350 "steers" the leaser beam for rapid setup and alignment in both horizontal and vertical planes. The steerer provides beam sweep of ±2° (±35mm/m) in both planes for axes up to 5m (200 inches) long. The LS350 is available with Renishaw ML10 laser interferometer systems and can be ordered as a standalone unit for use with other brands of laser interferometers. Adaptors are available for users of HP 5528 and 5529 systems.

The ML10 Gold Standard laser interferometer system provides linear position resolution down to 1 nm, range of up to 80 m and accuracy of ±0.7 ppm over the full environmental operating range (0°-40°C). That versatility enables calibration of both large and small motion systems with state-of-the-art precision. The ML10 system is widely used by OEM's and end-users in research, design, manufacturing and maintenance applications in fields ranging from machine tools, CMMs, motion control, and aerospace manufacturing to semiconductor processing, flat panel display production and biotechnology.

The ML10 Gold Standard system features Renishaw's latest Laser10 Windows® software and compact USB interface for use with both notebook and desktop computers. The powerful, user-friendly software comes with a comprehensive user guide and reference manual on CD-ROM to aid users in proper system setup and software assistance. The software allows users the capability of both static and dynamic data capture and provides data analysis for national and international CMM and machine tool standards.
