Phihong Offers Complete Remote Power Solution for IP Security Cameras

PoE package makes installation even more convenient...

FREMONT, Calif. (September 19, 2006) - Phihong, a global leader in Power-over-Ethernet solutions, now offers a complete remote power solution that adds power to Ethernet cables and separates power and data at the camera. Consisting of the PSD14 splitter and the POE20U midspan, Phihong's PoE package is ideal for IP security cameras even if they are not Power-over-Ethernet enabled.

"Many fixed IP security cameras are compatible with PoE but do not have the capability to carry out the full pan, tilt and zoom functions without the availability of higher power," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "This package provides that to customers at a more affordable price than other alternatives. Unlike other suppliers, we design, manufacture and sell our own products, so pricing isn't driven up to cover the expenses of several companies involved throughout the design and manufacture process."

The POE20U midspan is capable of providing up to 20W of power and the PSD14 splitter can provide up to 14W of DC power to the camera at the end of a 100 meter cable. In addition to high power, Gigabit data compatibility for high quality pictures is also provided. The features of these devices make the PoE package suitable for a variety of high power applications, including video-capable IP telephones and wireless network access points.

The PSD14 splitter is designed for mounting next to a camera, and is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3af standards. The splitter features an LED indicator that signals if the device is working properly, and is available in a non-vented case with 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, and 1000BASE-T data rates and a UNH IOL (University of New Hampshire, Interoperability Lab) test report.

The POE20U midspan is capable of powering a single camera, features diagnostic LEDs, and is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard in detection, disconnect and voltage control.

The PSD14 Splitter is available in 5V and 12V versions depending on what input is required by the camera. All of Phihong's products meet FCC, EN and EMC standards. Phihong's midsans are UL, TUV and CE approved for information technology safety requirements.

Power-over-Ethernet allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable, enabling a device to operate entirely from the power it receives through the data cable. This eliminates the need for an electrician or wet location power outlets, so security cameras can be mounted and located anywhere.

Pricing for Phihong's POE20U Midspan Power Source is $29.95 each. If the camera is not PoE-enabled, the PSD14 Splitter can be used at $24.95. Both products are available from www.midspans.com.

Phihong is one of the leading suppliers of power solutions to networking OEMs, including power supplies, adapters and Power-over-Ethernet products.
